4.0b installation error - installer 'did not succeed'

I made Logos update itself manually this afternoon when I heard about the 4.0b patch, and it downloaded fine but won't install. I tried updating via the setup file that someone linked to rather than doing it through the program itself, but that failed as well.
The first error message that I got was "The installation of Logos 4 did not succeed" (when I try and do it via the Home Page), and the second error message that I got (when using the manual updater) is: "Runtime error! Program C:\Users\Jay\Desktop\Logos4setup.exe. This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information".
Anyone else getting this? I am running Windows 7 [w/ all patches], ThreatFire [disabled for the install], and Norton Internet Security 2009 [w/ all updates] on a Toshiba AMD X2 Dual-Core QL-65 at 2.10 Ghz. I have 2 GB RAM and plenty [90GB+] HDD space.

I had this happen to me this morning. I'm at work right now and unable to try again but it was frustrating because I couldn't figure out what was wrong or how to fix it. I hope someone comes up with an answer. I thought more people would be having this problem.

Valerie, some folks were forced to totally re-index (rather than just have the new "Bible" indexer do its thing).
I do not know where that might come into your equation.
At least one other was trying to make sure he was the "Administratior." I am not sure if he succeeded.
[Some of us had similar problems (related? unrelated?) trying to get the RC2 beta to download. On that occassion it seemed like the "victims" and the Logos helpers were "talking past one another." As this 4.0b is the same version as that RC2, -though now "golden"- - there might be a connection?]

Gang-
Wow, that was fast!
I am running as Windows 7 Admin, so that's not it. There's only one Win 7 account, and I'm it
I also tried the link that Mark suggested [that's what I meant by the manual update], and didn't have any luck either.
Any other ideas?

Jay,
Can you post your log files - should be in My Documents/Logos Log Files - the logos4setup.log file - zip it and attach it to your post here.

If this .msi file exists then you should be able to execute it and install Logos4 -->
C:\Users\Jay\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\gshcbtsn.4rn\UpdateManager\Installers\96\Logos4.msi'

The error indicates that the Windows Installer service could not be accessed, although it could also mean you're out of diskspace. It's a Windows error rather than a Logos error.
Try googling for msi 1601 for some possible solutions.
It might also be helpful to upload the following file: C:\Users\Jay\Documents\Logos Log Files\DigitalLibraryInstall.log

Dave,
No, it hasn't been resolved yet - I'll look for the MSI file now and see if that resolves it. If it doesn't, I'll upload the LibraryInstall.log file [at work right now and can't use my laptop]
Logos4 does work normally if I skip the install. Don't know if that will help you or not.

Dave,
I do have the MSI file, but if I double click on it, I get an error message, which I've attached. Any suggestions? I know this is a Windows 7 issue, but any advice would be helpful.

Here's the other log that someone suggested I post:

Looking at this article. Will let you know if it helps.

That says that the msi failed to connect to the server. You might take up Mark's suggestion and Google for msi 1601 error --> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321497 quotes a situation that matches yours.

Hi Jay, it looks like Dave's link contains a solution - try that out and see how it works. If it doesn't work you should call Tech Support - I just spoke with them and they should have a quick way of fixing your situation but they'd most likely have to walk you through it. (360) 685-2337

Now I'm getting a "Error writing to file" C:\users\Jay\Appdata\local\logos4\logos4.exe. Verify that you have access to that directory." message.
I used services.msc to enable the Windows Installer, so I think that's fixed.

Do you have any firewalls? If so you may need to add these files from AppData\Local\Logos4\System to the allowed list:
UpdateManager.exe
Logos4.exe
Logos4Indexer.exe

Right-click on the installation .exe file and run as administrator.

You may consider reinstalling fresh - but back up your resources to avoid the huge download - see http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers and probably use Method 3 - it will rebuild your whole index though.
