Parallel Vs. VMFusion

I found this video just the other day that tested both Parallel and VMFusion on an identical macbook pro. I, myself, used both parallel and fusion on my computer and founded that parallel was much better. Anyhow, this video is helpful as you try to figure out which vm is for your computer. It's bit long, but you can get the gist of it after couple of minutes.

So does it come down to memory management? I have 8GB on my Mac running XP SP3, VM3. Are you saying that it would run better with parallels?

Bench tests are one thing; real life operation is another. I upgraded from Fusion 2.06 to Parallels 5, and I don't think the speed increase was all that dramatic. However, I like the feel and operation of Parallels better than I did Fusion. I would expect VMWare to put out a new version soon that may be faster than Parallels. Then, Parallels will be forced to respond. Isn't competition wonderful!
I doubt that you will gain $50 - $70 worth of advantage by switching. I will look for the Lord's Return or L4 Mac RC1, whichever comes first. [8-|]

They may be pretty close, they just released Fusion 3.1 beta with some graphic enhancements. I have been pretty impressed so far.Jack Caviness said:I would expect VMWare to put out a new version soon that may be faster than Parallels

These two companies have been leapfrogging each other in features etc. for a while now. We have found Fusion to be more stable in the corporate world.

The release of Parallels 4 was a total disaster which drove me to Fusion 2. When Parallels offered me a good deal on P-5, I decided to take a chance on it. So far, I like it better than Fusion 2.06. I have never tried Fusion 3.

It's a hard call, Jack. cf. Philippians 1:23.

Not having used Parallels I cannot comment on it. At the point that I was shopping I looked over the forums specifically looking for complaints. From that venue parallels (at that point on v.4) was getting hammered for not even acknowledging that problems existed. Over all VMWare seems to have at least a somewhat more responsive support system. There is no such thing as a perfectly functioning application, so how companies handle the problems is as important to me as how well the application works.
Fusion 3 is a vast improvement over Fusion 2, both in interface and in performance.

I was told by a friend who works for Logos that Logos 4 runs better under Parallels 5...for now. I have used both of these applications (VMWare and Parallels) frequently and right now I am using Parallels 5 with Windows 7 Pro x64. I have to say that I have never had a faster Windows virtual environment and still not a crash (been running it for about 3 months now).
Jack is right though, it is only a matter of time before VMWare puts out a new version that performs better than Parallels.
And if this is worth anything, I know sales reps at both companies...the Parallels guy is much cooler. [:)]I

The release of P-4 was an unmitigated disaster. Parallels support was horrible. The suggestions were so worthless as to be infuriating. I now believe that was because the programmers and support personnel did not have a clue as to the origin of all the bugs or of any workarounds. As one of the irate customers it appeared to me that they had tested each release built on top of the previous beta, and that no one had ever tried to install P-4 directly from P-3 or even from scratch. So, the Beta testers and support personnel had working systems and could not believe that everyone else was failing.
With P-5, I have not even consulted any form of customer support or read the first post in their forums. Parallels 5 just works.
