Internet Connections?

In the setup menu there is an option to use or not use the Internet connection with L4.

What interaction is there between L4 and the Internet? Are some of the L4 resources housed and accessed from the L4 computers?

What do we lose if we do not use the Internet connection?

A quick stab at an answer - there are those better qualified than me:

You lose automatic updates - these can be done manually
You lose backups and synchronization of personal settings such as layouts, collections, etc.

Those are two I would miss the most.
