Future March Madness Suggestion

In light of the current thread about March Madness and women author's, it seems fitting to make an observation. In future tournaments have 2 brackets, one for the men the other for the women. Then have the winner's meet in the championship round. Still give the 75% for both winner's. Then give 80% for the overall winner. It's just a thought.

My preference in March Madness is purely self interested. I want the best (subjective) of what I don't currently own to get through to final rounds regardless of gender or denomination but I appreciate the suggestion for promoting more female authors and do think that is a good thing.

Why separate brackets? If an author, male or female, is sufficiently well-regarded, then their work can stand on its own merits. Female authors shouldn't need their own bracket in order for their work to stand up.

Virgil your point is very valid, I don't believe anyone is advocating putting up works of female authors that don't stand on their own. It's more a case of people recognising there are female authors out there worth reading and worthy of a place in March Madness. And not only that people want to see more female authors books available in the Logos and Verbum stores.

Separate brackets means that they will be in competition only with each other until the later rounds. What is the benefit of that?

Virgil, 'sufficiently well regarded' assumes awareness, along with a willingness for 'regarded'.

Now, I haven't chimed in on the female group for theological reasons. Religion is largely a male enterprise for obvious reasons ... that group struggles mightily with good behavior. So, having male writers, pastors, etc is helpful for the needy group. Smiling.

The difference is that, in basketball (and other sports), there is a substantial athletic difference between males and females. Is there a similar disparity of ability between male and female theological writers? If not, why have separate brackets?

It's just a suggestion, not the law. Your analogy about the athletic difference is false. Take the recent women that graduated Ranger school, there's no difference between genders. I was just suggesting two brackets so women are more represented.

EastTN, I think it justifiable to not associate affirmative action with the guys in the early church. If we take the Pastoral writer seriously, the ladies involvement was strictly to try to get the guys moving in the right direction. I thought it interesting the earliest synogoues didn't have a section for the gals ... certainly no need. Smiling (again).

You do remember how Junia tried to get Andronicus to ask for directions. It wasn't easy.
