Please explain Free Engine Version versus Book Version

I'm evaluating products. Let's hypothetically say I download the Free Engine version 7 and then buy 2 books (my account posts a license for the books). Then in 2 years you release Free Engine version 9. Do the book formats purchased automatically upgrade file format to version 9 with a new engine? Or do books have to be repurchased on some type of upgrade fee for each software version change?

Any book (or feature) that you buy is yours forever. You own it, and you will never be charged for that resource again, even if it is included again in a future product. That is the basis of Dynamic Pricing.

Newer software versions can still read any older formats, so there is no concern there. The book formats don't change for every release, but when a book is updated, you get that update for free.

(Note that the free updates apply to the same edition of a book. A new edition released by a publisher is considered a different book.)

Adding to Petah, Logos even supports much earlier books that used their software (older version) but someone else sold. I have several like this that are no longer available anywhere, but Logos still supports them, from version to version. And this support has even created an off-Logos market for these older resources that are highly desired.

Welcome to the forums... I have books & collections dating back to Logos 1.6. They all still work & have been updated for free by Logos whenever:
a) the publisher released corrections; or
b) Logos updated their internal data format.

If you keep getting the free upgrade, you'll continue to have access to your books. If you want even more functionality, consider one of the feature upgrades. But you won't NEED them, even if at some point you WANT them.

Although I wasn't a big fan of the cloud at 1st, I kind of like Logos having a backup of all my licenses so that porting my library to a new computer or restoring it to my current computer is pretty automatic, now, as long as I don't mind the download.

And I especially like all the helpful folks on the forums.
