Pre-order or Pre-pub?

Still new to this...

Is there a difference between a pre-order and a pre-pub? I rushed to pre-order the EBC thinking the price would go up when it was released, but it didn't.

I'm still not clear on the difference in pricing between a Pre-pub and a pre-order. It sounds like they're not the same.

Generally, the pre-pub prices are lower than the price once it goes live. Sometimes the price varies during the pre-pub process. Sometimes the live price is not different - it usually depends on what the publisher determines, since they own the rights to pricing. This is pretty unusual. But Zondervan products have been much sought after and Zondervan seems to have been pretty firm on pricing. The alternative is no Zondervan material.

If I understand correctly, pre-pub =pre-order. Pre-order price may be lower than general price (but not always).

My application is this: I pre-ordered the NIV Application Commentaries for $249 because I want the lower price. I do not necessarily need this in April when released (next fall will be fine by me), so can I cancel the pre-order and purchase in the fall but still expect to get the same price in the fall? (Using the EBC as an example, whose price did not change after release)

From a cash flow perspective it makes more sense to pay when I need it, not to pay in April when I may not really need it until the fall.

from what I understand, the Zondervan prices are fixed... so the pre-pub price = the price it'll sell for after it's live

I'm not 100% sure, but after seeing the EBC price not go up, I think that will be the case with the rest of the Zondervan books

Court you are correct that resource is currently selling for 249 dollars and it is going to sell for that price after it comes off pre-pub. Of course by fall the price could go up or down, since this whole zondervan thing is new, it is hard to tell what will happen for sure.

But if you are like some people they get a 40% off the 249 dollar price as long as they buy it before June 10th, if you had pradis products of any kind you might get this discount check into it!

I did not have Pradis so the discount doesn't apply to me. I think I'll cancel my order and risk it, unless someone from Logos chimes in otherwise. Thanks everyone!

I just wanted to confirm that you have the basic idea of things.

A pre-order is basically the same thing as the Pre-pub. The pre-order lets logos know that you want this item that has not yet been published. The day that you pre order something is the pre-pub price that you will pay for it. For example....

Publisher XYZ offers this 7 volume set. When the "pre-pub" offer is first released let's say it is discounted to 199.99 for retail of 599.99 You can pre-order at first offering at 199.99....pre-pub price. .

if you wait....this pre-pub price could take a step to 259.99 (as it gets close to publication) If you "pre-order" when the page says 259.99 this is your pre-pub price... When it finally publishes it could be 399.99 or 599.99 it all depends on the publisher for pricing.

Some pubishers like this zondervan group don't offer discounts on the pre-publication books...they just go at their price. again it is not Logos its the publisher.

I am desperately trying to figure out how to cancel a pre-pub order. The email just says if you want the book do nothing. You will be billed for it on October 10th when it becomes available. Nowhere in the email does it have a link to go to your pre-pub items or tell you what to do if you decided you no longer want the item. HELP!!!

how to cancel a pre-pub order

simply login to Logos.com and go to top right corner where you'll see your name. Click on your name and then see the option "Orders". Click there and you'll see there tabs, one for prepubs, one for community pricing, and one for completed orders (history). you can click on prepubs (its usually selected by default) and then click delete to the far right hand side. let us know if you can't find it :-)

Hi Jeff. It's easy.

1. Go to the Logos website and sign-in.
2. Your name will appear. Click the down arrow next to your name.
3. A menu will appear. Click ' Orders '
4. Under the Orders heading click ' Open Pre-Pubs '
5. In the list that appears find the pre-pub you want to cancel and click the ' Delete ' link. It should disappear from the list. It will not be downloaded when it is released and you will not be charged for it.

I could be wrong on this, but I think there are in fact an important difference between pre-orders and pre-pubs: (1) A pre-order would seem to indicate a definite intention to publish, unless the deal with the publisher falls through for some reason. Pre-ordering allows you to lock the price. (2) A pre-pub goes through the phases of gauging interest. While the pre-pub price is locked (in contrast to community pricing), a number of pre-pubs end up not having gathered enough interest and are dropped.

The impression is that the key element of a pre-order is an agreement with the publisher whereas that of the pre-pub is confirmation of interest in the resource.
