NIV Faithlife Study Bible in Print

I am curious as to why FaithLife decided to publish the FaithLife Study Bible in the NIV, vs the ESV. It appears to me that the ESV has had preference in the software since I first purchased Logos 3.

Will a print version be available in the ESV later? My new pastor uses the ESV in sermons, and I don't have an ESV print bible. I guess I will pickup an ESV Thompson Chain Reference Bible when they publish.

The product page has:

"the full text of the New International Version (NIV), the most read, most trusted modern-English Bible"

which may explain why the NIV was chosen.

Bob has explained several times that FL favouring the ESV is because of it's generous usage policy. I would seriously doubt seeing a print version of a ESV FLSB because they partner who FL chose to partner with was Zondervan. Zondervan more or less now controls the rights for NIV NKJV NASB and AMP (yes Lockman still own and control content of their respective translations but as my understanding goes distribution rights to publish have been funnelled through Zondervan, meaning that any publisher can still publish them, but must negotiate rights contracts of publication for north america at least through Zondervan).

Seeing as they publish no ESV now and the NASB is exceptional close to the text of the ESV, it would seem to me that you ould sooner see a NASB FLSB than an ESV FLSB published. Stranger things have happened but I see it as unlikely. Strangely enough they went with the NIV rather than their own Lexham English Bible, but it may have been something to do with the fact there doesn't yet seem to be a printed edition to the LEB may mean FL has yet to locate a publisher it feels comfortable with for developing and likely administrating distribution of. Zondervan also seems to be streamlining their offerings as well into the first decade of this century they had a half a dozen NRSV study and devotional Bibles they use to publish.

EDIT: Zondervan still sells 6 NRSV Bibles strangely enough you have to search for NRSV to locate them rather than in their drop down menu from the main screen.

I wasn't aware that Zondervan controlled the rights to the NASB. It is my favorite translation and one that I have used since 1986. I have it in the Ryrie, Life Application, and NASB Study Bible (NASB with NIV Study Bible notes) versions. The Ryrie is in Hardback and my first NASB, so it is pre-1995 text. I tend to use the version that my current pastor uses from the pulpit, thus the ESV for now. Here is a link to a site selling discounted print bibles. www dot discountbible dot org/

Although I have several NIV bibles, I never quite liked it as well as the NASB. I use the Logos Bible app on my android tablet. I find sometimes it is helpful to have a print bible for outlines, pericopes, notes, and cross references. The app provides them, but it is quicker for me to do a quick flip of the physical pages than use the verse picker in the app.

I probably will not buy the FaithLife Study Bible in the NIV. I will just use my tablet or desktop and pair it with the NASB and ESV.

I can't find the article I read on it but Zondervan and Lockman foundation have always had a very close relationship and were near exclusive publishers of the Amplified Bible, I am sure that I read an article about publishing rights, I do know Zondervan went from publishing only one NASB Bible a few years back to offering a fair selection of NASB products. I know that a revision to the amplified Bible has just been released and a complete revision albeit fairly minor from what i have heard is happening to the 1995 NASB and the electronic version will be out later this year and print version by early 2018. I might have misread things since going to the Lockman website all permissions seem to be going through them, but then again those are not talking about whole Bibles but nearly quotes and use of in works.... That said I do know there are no type of exclusive use rights to Zondervan and if it has happened and not a misreading of something bye me a few years back it makes sense. Since other more independent translations like the NRSV have gone through several publishing rights guardians over the years (World was the original one I think, then it went to another company and now I believe HarperCollins Zondervan's parent company manages it).

I should have used "I wasn't aware that Zondervan has some publishing rights to the NASB", instead of "I wasn't aware that Zondervan controlled the rights to the NASB".

My response wasn't questioning your statement, only conveying my ignorance of how publishers license their products.

Graham pointed out it may be just that the NIV is very popular and may provide the best possible adaption of the print FaithLife Study Bible. I was wondering in the back of my brain if this is just a progression with the FaithLife and Zondervan corporate partnership.
