Notes Files: Lots or Few?

Wondering how people use Notes. Do you have a few notes file containing lots of notes, or vice versa? What are the pros and cons of each approach?

I would assume that lots of small files makes editing and finding notes in a file easier, but means harder (if not impossible from a practical POV) to turn notes on and off for example.

I primarily use notes for capturing thoughts on a passage when preparing to preach. Hence my individual notes will be a screne or two in height. Occasionally I tag a note against a verse or word ...

In L3 I had a Sermon Notes file, but after importing that i decided to split it into indivudual notes files for each passage ...

I find for me personally the fewer bigger files seem to work faster, where lots of little files seem to slow it down.

This has been raised in the 4.0c beta test, and I can already say 4.0c appears more responsive (to me).  There has been mention of possible performance improvements in the future.
