Is there a command or keyboard shortcut to go to the further place read in a book?
Not unless you do it manually e.g. CTRL+5 using Favorites >> Bookmarks.

That is the way I have been doing it. But I have to remember to mark where I was before I jump to another place in the book. I know I can use Alt+Left Arrow to jump back to my previous location in the current session. But that does not do me much good when I pick up the book next time. This seems to me to be a basic feature reading a digital book.

The potential to do it is there e.g. opening a book from Library or the Command box, but you have to make sure you close it at the last place read. It doesn't work for books like bibles and commentaries which can open to the active reference. The method would therefore have to be:
