A16 - Biblical People

I know the release notes mention a problem with the zoom not being limited by the area available, but this seems to be a different issue. All the people in the chart gather together to the top left corner whenever 'Fit' is selected. Please see the screen capture below. Do you need to see my log files?

I think it is trying to show us that it is a close-knit family.[:)]

Yes logs are always appreciated. Not certain if we'll be able to tell what happened, but worth looking at.
Does this happen with any (all) skins?
Only certain people? certain diagrams?
Do they go to the correct spots if you resize the frame once in this state or do they stay clustered in the corner?
Thanks
Glenn

Yes.
Glenn Gervais said:Only certain people?
No. It seems to be everyone, although (as you can probably can guess) I only tried a few: Tamar, Paul and Simon.
Glenn Gervais said:certain diagrams?
No. Again it seems to be every diagram ... with the proviso that I haven't trawled through them all ...

Resizing the window returns the diagram back to it's correct form.
You will also notice from the logs that the application crashed as I closed the Biblical People window after trying out all the above for you.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I couldn't find anything in the logs, but have since found that I can reproduce this and have posted a bug for this.

This isn't so much a reply to your exact issue with Biblical people, but it does pertain to Biblical people as a whole. I continue to have a crash, every time I simply load Biblical people. I wish I could post a log for you to see, but when I launch Biblical people it instantly locks up my entire computer (finder, everything) to the point that I can't even force quit. I have to power down the entire computer with the push and hold method. Would my logs shown anything if this were the case? I wish I could take a screen shot of it. I know that the word "Abraham" is the preloaded word in the search bar.
-Just curious.

O.k. So I tried it again, but didn't allow it to get more than about 1 second into it. I managed to get a quick screen shot and then closed the window quickly, which prevented a crash. What is strange is that it seems to have old data in the middle (ie. Judas iscariot) while it tries to refresh the images on the bottom left. That's when the color wheel appears.

If you have the logs to post that would be great, if not can you reproduce and post some new logs. Hopefully they will let us know what exactly is crashing.
Thanks
Glenn

Robin,
Just curious, how much RAM do you have in your Mac?

2 Gigs. Should that be enough or do I need to go to 4?
Thanks,
Robin

Tom,
Tonight I ran Biblical People again, after I had seen it eventually somewhat in the Passage Guide view. It crashed again, but this time it didn't lock up my whole system. I happened to have the activity monitor running at the time and saw an instant drop in available resources. Thus, I wonder if I really need more than 2 Gigs of RAM. Attached is my log after tonight's crash.
Thanks,
Robin

Robin,
There is a pretty serious memory leak in the current alphas that can crash the app with Biblical People, particularly on major biblical characters (Abraham, Jesus, Jacob) who have lots of graphs. We intend to fix the issue, but 4 GB of RAM *might* help you run longer. Our long term solution is not recommending RAM upgrades to users
That said, I personally have 4 GB of RAM in my MacBook at home and I think the upgrade is worth it, not just for Logos, but for my MacBook in general. Other users (who are not employees) could probably give you their 2 cents on the matter as well.

Robin,
After looking at your logs, I suspect an Out of Memory Error was probably the culprit.

Thank you Phil. I had read something about the memory leak in the past, but wasn't sure if that was the culprit until I saw my Ram drop significantly. I'll definitely consider the RAM upgrade as well. [:)]
