I notice that there are IVP version and a NICNT version. The IVP seems to be more recent but shorter.....
Anyone got a clue about this?

All I can do is point you to http://www.bestcommentaries.com/category/philippians/,where the IVP is rated 4.3 and described as devotional and the NICNT is rated 2nd in the list at 8.6, described as Technical and Pastoral. Does that help?

The reader, however, should not assume by these acknowledgments of indebtedness that this is simply a smaller version of the larger one. In many ways, of course, it is that, since I changed my mind only a couple of times in the course of this writing. But I have had the reader of this series in view at every turn, which has meant that the exposition has “lightened up” a bit and the many footnotes of “Big Phil” have been all but eliminated.
