Citing Logos Books

Citing Logos books has been easy for the most part, since they represent the digital versions of physical, printed books. I would just use the publication information from the printed book.
Recently, however, Logos has published some titles digitally for which there is not printed version. The "Exposition of Prayer in the Bible" is one such title. Were I to write an academic paper would I need to identify it as an electronic resource, or could I simply cite it as I would a printed book but with Logos Research Systems as the publisher?
Going a step further, there are printed books for which Logos has produced its own version, such as many of Spurgeon's works. For academic purposes, should I track down a physical copy for publisher information, or is it legitimate to use the Logos citation (Logos Research Systems, or Ages Software, as publisher)?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Logos will cite your academic papers for you. I am in seminary and allow Logos to do the citing. Go to tools/program settings select your citation style and click yes by copy citation and copy footnotes and that's it.

Thanks for the reply, Alan. I've used it before, but still I wonder if it is acceptable. In the past the citations for some resources were insufficient, and of course resources like journal articles I've always had to manually cite (unless that has been changed in Logos 4 - I'm a Mac user).

You do have to manipulate the journal articles, they do not put the author's name, but other than that I have had no problem with any citations in two years here. I am at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS, in case you were wondering.

Depends on your citation style, but most of them now document what is required for digital resources. Google will probably help you find the required format online somewhere. For example, the MLA Citation Guide at OSU Library includes the following:
Electronic Scholarly Journal Article (From a Database)
Herold, Niels. "Pedagogy, Hamlet, and the Manufacture of Wonder." Shakespeare Quarterly 46.2 (1995):125-134. JSTOR. Web. 31 Dec. 2009.Electronic Book
Horowitz, Daniel. "Growing Up Absurd." Vance Packard & American Social Criticism. Chapel Hill: U of North Carolina Press, 1994. NetLibrary. Web. 16 October 2008.Turabian and others will have their own requirements.
Instead of the name of the online database and "Web" and the date accessed, I'd put Logos Bible Software and the version number of the resource (which you can get from the Info panel in that resource). So, for example, for a Logos-published work:
Bellingham: Logos Research Systems, 2009. Logos Bible Software. 2009-10-27T00:58:29Z.

I am using SBL style for my thesis (92,000 words and counting), but obviously with a paper as massive as that I need something more than just a simple citation, so I use EndNote to manage my citations. When copying from Logos 3, which I use for my academic work, I copy and paste as two separate actions into Word 2007, since that gives me options to copy in destination format, which is important to me. Then I attach a footnote and insert citation with EndNote. It would be be really helpful to copy citations of particular resources straight from Logos into EndNote like I can with ATLASerials. I hope they will develop something for L4 to do that.

Alan will get back to you when he see your question. (I don't have your answer.) Meanwhile I wonder if someone from Morris Proctor Seminars can tell us if the soon-to-be-released Logos Academic Training addresses issues specific to students. It is my understanding it does touch on footnotes and the like.

I might also check with your reference librarian - my experience as a college instructor has always suggested that this individual (or someone similar) is available to provide this kind of guidance to students. At one institution, the needed help was available in the writing lab, but this was at the undergraduate level, not a seminary.

Hi Michael, you can find the page number that the quote comes from by turning on page numbers on the Visual Filters menu at the top of the resource:
Once "Show page numbers" is turned on, you'll see markers for where pages start within the text:

Hi Alan
Did you find a sollution? I have been looking for a quick way of importing Logos sources into my Thesis-citing-software to. A great help would be to have the ISBN-# of the book. That would make it easy to get the book into a Citing software. I use CITAVI.
Up to now I did not find the ISBN codes anywhere in Logos. Did I just not look enough?
Greetings from Switzerland, Eva

Wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Bibliography that can export Logos resource information.

Hi Eva,
No, Logos does not store the ISBN codes anywhere. You can look them up on Amazon.com, though.
However you shouldn't need that. Logos can export BibTeX format, and according to Citavi's website, it can import BibTeX.

Hi Shelley - and welcome to the forums
This thread is rather old (nearly 10 years) and it is normally better to start a new one. Also it's not quite clear what you are trying to do (a number of things are discussed in the thread)
Please clarify what you are trying to achieve and what is not working for you
Graham

Following your instructions on my iPad, going under settings, there is nothing about citations there. Only accounts, preferred bible, notebook for highlights, reading reminder and send feedback.
