Book-building: reading plan misses headings

I grabbed one of my Kindle books, saved it as *.docx, and went through the whole thing in Word tagging Heading 1 and Heading 2. The book seemed to build OK: I do see all the headings I tagged in the left-side table of contents.

But when I make a reading plan, all those headings seem to be ignored.

How can I force headings (or whatever) that the reading plans will acknowledge?

I don't understand. Can you be more explicit? What do you expect to happen? What is happening?

There is an alternate way to build a reading plan (manually), but it is a pain to do. If you are interested, I'll see if I can dig up the 411.

I'm hoping--expecting--that daily readings will have entries.

On my most recent personal book attempt, the first day is the whole book. Every day for 6 months is still represented in the reading plan (I chose a 6-month plan), but nothing is there. And if I hover over the entry for the first day, I can see the table of contents. But those table entries do not appear anywhere in the reading plan.

On my previous personal book attempt, I had about the same result. So I returned to the *.docx file and went through the 200+ pages to mark Heading 1, Heading 2, and a few Heading 3, for chapter heads, sub-chapter heads, etc. I thought that would do it. But it had no effect.

Regretfully, Kindle books don't have page numbers. That might help.

You have to insert page numbers or volume/page numbers e.g. [[@Page:1]], [[@Page:2]], etc. or [[@VolumePage:1,1]], [[@VolumePage:1,2]]

I’d love to insert the page numbers (I’ve done it before to create a 200-page book, and that works perfectly). But these are Kindle books—no page numbers are available.

One of my Kindle books came into a Logos personal book without pagination, and it works great: every day in the multi-month reading schedule populates with a distinct reading.

But that doesn't happen always, and that's what I'm hoping to fix.

You'll want to create a custom reading plan. You can find instructions in the Help file at this location.

Vyrso books are similar. Ones which only have single chapter headings in the TOC, you are able to create "One Chapter Per Reading" plans. I don't think Dave's suggestion will help any... unless you wanted random plans irrespective of chapters and natural breaks.

Philana's link is the likely best answer, unless the single heading strategy were to work.
