This is what I received via email from the Academic Program coordinator, "The package that has been provided to Dallas Theological Seminary has not been placed into a collection that is available for general purchase. At this time, there are no plans to make it available in this way.

We would love to have special curated collections with every school – including yours!"

I may be wrong, but I doubt this will happen with my seminary due to partnership with Lifeway which owns a competing Bible Software/library program.

And that software can hardly be considered academic quality.

You ought to take the time to ask for a deal with Logos. If they are not offering a good deal with the other software, show them the DTS spreadsheet (remembering that they give students all of the Silver package as well) as an example of the academic offerings Logos has.

Your seminary denomination has authors in Logos. The NAC is published by B&H. It isn't a losing proposition for them.

I agree. The only reason I still have it on my computer is because of the Lesson Maker feature that I first obtained before Lifeway purchased WordSearch - I go back to the 3.5" floppies.

I would guess some faculty know of Logos. Because of narrow interests in academia, they may personally prefer another program so haven't given Logos for the seminary much thought. The academic discount, the possibility of offering a customized bundle, all the journals, the afore-mentioned Baptist resources, plus Logos' great features are strong sellling points. Of course, you know this.

I know a number of SBC pastors that got wowed with that other software's presentations at the annual convention, bought it, then hardly ever used it. I don't wonder why.

No harm in opening up the discussion with the top guy.

Personally, I do not understand why Logos would not want to do this for any seminary that they have a package for - given the number of alumni that use Logos from each of these schools. I am not a DTS grad, but I would be interested in the package because I am in agreement with them theologically and books by their faculty have greatly blessed my life. Unless it has to do with student discounts, I don't know why they wouldn't want to drive sales in this way. Personally, I would understand if they gave me one price and a student another price.

I would be interested in seeing your categories of "flavors".

I have had experience with a lot of diversity under the broad category of Baptist. Much of my upbringing was in Independent Fundamental Baptist (KJV-only). My father was ordained in the American Baptist (headquartered in Valley Forge, PA). Between those two extremes I have had very close fellowship with brothers in Converge Worldwide (formerly BGC) and North American Baptist. I now am employed at a Southern Baptist church.

This diversity is not only seen in the Baptist tradition. When I was pastoring in Wisconsin there were many more Lutherans, but I have come to learn that there is a world of difference between LCMS, WELS, and ELCA.

I realize labels can be divisive, and that is NOT my intent in identifying differences within a theological tradition. It just provides a frame of reference to begin with when dialoguing with a brother/sister in Christ.

From my description in the first paragraph you may be able to identify why I would appreciate a DTS curated resource collection.

I couldn't agree more. I too was raised around independent fundamental baptist (KJO), and since conversion at 21, have attended SBC- yet I have outgrown my dispensational roots and am solidly in line with Reformed Baptists. Interesting discussions for sure.

I asked as well and was not given quite as graphic of a response. The Dean of the Doctoral studies dept. did tell me that a couple years ago a pitch was made by Logos employees and the administration of MBTS did not view it as an advantageous partnership for the seminary as a whole. As for our department, by the time a student enrolls in Doc studies most have already invested significantly in their platform of choice so an expectation of students at this level to adapt to Logos would not be received well.

Makes a lot of sense at the doctoral level. I'm still finishing an M.Div a bit east of you.

The lecture was a little more in depth. Canabalizing an SBC institution that directly benefits me (etc etc etc) Logos is great, and a fantastic tool. But (he said) I won't recommend anything that will cut the wrists of my students financially.

When it comes right down to it, I much prefer Logos to any of the others. Even with its missteps, and foibles, and staff shakeups, and the aggravating journal situation, and promises RE personal book syncing. In part because I've invested nearly as much in Logos, as I have in my education. But also in part because I like how it works. It does everything I need it to. I also value Bob. I don't think I'd have the same level of reach into Lifeway that we forum users have into Faithlife. I believe in his mission and model with regards to bible software and supporting the church through software.

Things aren't always right on day 1. But they always make things right also. That makes me feel heard, and like my business, and opinion matter.

I don't think that is as true with any other company right now. So I stay, and happily so.

When it comes right down to it, I much prefer Logos to any of the others.

I first bought WS when NavPress still owned it (sold it in 1993). I got QV when it was still owned by Parsons Technology, long before Lifeway bought it when it was on life support. Somewhere along the line I got a few resources in Pradis (Zondervan's now defunct program) - a few study guides and the old Expositor's Bible Commentary is the only reason it is still on my computer. I didn't come to Logos until Libronix SeriesX in 2003. The search and export options of Logos far exceeds the others and is more useful to academic research In My Honest Opinion. The ONLY thing I have found in WS that I haven't been able to do with more efficiency in Logos is the LessonMaker program. That is the Only reason WS it is still on my computer.

A professional craftsman needs professional-quality tools and fortunately I have qualified for Logos Academic discounts for most of the last 14 years. I have never regretted my investment in Logos. Ironically, at the SBC church I attend our Senior Pastor is a Logos user and a Logos Library was given by the church as a gift to the last man we ordained.

Deeply grateful for the prayers! I'm convinced that one can never be prayed for too much.

My graduate studies are actually winding down. I have about 8-9 classes left, but was called to be a pastor three years ago. Financially I can't afford to take many classes these days, and serving as a pastor pretty well keeps me busy. I managed about a class a semester the last year or so, and it appears I'll be able to take fewer going forward. Its amazing how God opens and closes doors. Five years ago I thought I'd be heading to the missions field. I was with a parachurch. I was dead set against more schooling, staying in this country for ministry in general and the pastorate in particular. But God closed some doors, and opened others. So I ended up in seminary. Still heading towards the missions field. But God closed some doors, and opened others and my home church that I occasionally filled the pulpit for (maybe an additional couple of years) found itself in need of a pastor. They mentioned the need, and I mentioned I'd be open to the possibility. After a time of prayer, my heart softened to the position. An ordination ceremony and vote to call me happened on the same night. The vote to call me was unanimous minus one (my uncle - the only member we've lost actually).

We were never big, and a string of deaths left us smaller than before. But God is sending people to us. we have had I think 10 baptisms since last summer, and three more planned. Pretty excited about that

Hoping to draw in some more people from the local bible college. May need to start spending some time down there.

I may work on a D.Min, or PhD when I finish here... Whatever the Lord wants.

I dont know if this is helpful, but I saved the English package into a docx file to eventually be compiled into an ebook. I have then started to put the resources into categories but I have not done a good job of it. It seems that there are a lot of random resources and I have not yet figured out the best way to organize the resources to compile a personal book. If anyone wants to look at what has been done and improve on it, perhaps eventually we can at least have a personal book of the resources.

I'm glad to admit that I was wrong! MBTS did develop a collection with Faithlife and now the entire library of BH titles in Wordsearch are in process.
