I'm fairly new to Logos in the last year. I figured brushing up on hermeneutics would help me learn how to use the program better. This way I an learning how to study the Bible better, then looking at Logos at how to help me. That way I'm not getting the proverbial cart in front of the horse. So I picked up Grasping God's Word by Duvall and Hays which I think I heard about on the forums here. So far I'm loving the book. Goes much deeper and broader than other books I've read on how to read the Bible but is still very readable and approachable.
Anyway as I was going through the book I wondered if Logos would help me be able to easily identify parts of speech to make sure I'm not missing anything. Poking around the program I figured out how to use a visual filter file to highlight parts of speech.
I was excited to find this and just had to share it with someone who could appreciate my enthusiasm.
If you're wondering how here's the notes from the help file:
Visual Filter Document
Create a Visual Filter document to store your rules for highlighting text in resources.
1. Click on File | New | Visual Filter, or open an existing document from the File | Open list.
2. Click on “Untitled Visual Filter” or the pencil icon next to it to type a unique name for the document.
3. Click on Basic, Bible, or Morph at the top right side of the panel. Under Morph you can type @ as in the Morph Search panel to bring up a list of morphology terms.
4. Depending on the type of search selected in step 3, choose a range, resource, or morphology for your filter.
5. Click on the panel menu if you want to select either Match case or Match all word forms.
6. Click into the Find box and type your query.
7. Click into the Formatting box to choose a highlighter from the drop-down list. (You can also tab to that field and press the down arrow key to scroll through the list of highlighters.)
8. New rows will be added after each entry, allowing you to add more queries and filters to the document. The changes will be saved automatically, and if one of the resources included in the rules of your Visual Filter document is open, the formatting you selected will be visible immediately.
9. To remove a visual filter, click the X on the right side of that row.
