L4 won't start

L4 won't start up and tech didn't know what was wrong, I was hoping someone might know.

Computer: Sony VGN-NW125J, Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU, T6500 @ 2.10 GHZ, 4 GB RAM and 288 GB Hard Drive, 2100MHZ, DDR2-800SDRAM, 5400rpm, Vista 64 Bit laptop

At computer start up it will start indexing and immediatly error on screen till I pause indexer. Then if I try to start up L4 it won't let me, error on screen.

So I can't use it for now. My tech might be gone for a long weekend, so any suggestions. I'm just not one to wait to fix something. L3 works so I'm ok, just want to solve problem. I can't a find comparable post.

Tim, it seems your logs can't be read here without an Earthlink account.

Intstead, use the paper-clip icon on the compose page of this forum to load your logs directly from your machine.

If indexing is causing this, you can try deleting the files in the index directory and see if L4 simply rebuilds the index.

In 4.0b there are two indexes a Bible index here:

C:\Users\[your Windows Log-in name]\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\[random
characters]\BibleIndex

And an index for all your other resources here:

C:\Users\[your Windows Log-in name]\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\[random characters]\LibraryIndex

NOTE: this path is from Win7, Vista will be similar, but you should be able to find it easily. Also note that the AppData folder is hidden, you will have to enable "View Hidden Folders" (in Windows) to view this folder.

The problem (visible in the Logos4.log file) occurs in the Markup section of the program. But I'm not sure if the problem is in the program of the markup file.

Did you import markups (AKA highlighting) from Libronix? If so, did you run the script to prepare your markups first?

I put a tag here asking for tech support, maybe they can see the problem clearer than I can.

The indexing file doesn't seem to show an error, it just stops (did you
quit it manually?)

Thanks, I didn't stop indexing manually, I paused it after it continually failed in some sort of looping error. I didn't import any highlighting, just what came with any automatic downloading updates. My tech did mention highlighting, but wasn't sure how it applied to the problem. That was yesterday morning.

Are you able to start Logos with a blank layout? (Hold down the Ctrl key while starting it up.)

There have been a couple of cases where system files did not get updated correctly. This error occurs right at the start so a complete uninstall/reinstall is the most effective "fix". Perform a backup before uninstalling and try one of the Methods at http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers

I'll be an L3 user for some time till I have time for reinstall. Tech said it would be later next week before they can discuss this with programmers. Can't say I'm not frustrated. Need to concentrate on Easter now, blessed in Christ <><
