Logos 4 Layout Related Request
In Logos 4 I have created a number of layouts for specific studies I'm doing, sermon prep, general reading reading, OT and NT word studies, etc. Many of the layouts are similar but with slight modifications or topic or book specific.
I'd like to see Logos place in the title bar of main screen, the title of the currently opened layout, ie, My Romans Study Layout, My Zechariah Study Layout, My NT Study Layout, etc.

What I was thinking is like in Microsoft Word where the title bar shows the title of the current document. Currently the Logos 4 title bar just tells you that you're using Logos 4.That should be a no-brainer. Why not make it even more more useful by listing the current layou along with the current Logos releaset information being run. If they still want to remind us that we are using Logos 4 they could have it show something like this, "Logos Bible Software 4.0C Beta (4.03.3.7605) - My Romans Study Layout"
This would mean that I'd always know what layout was open and what my current release was in case I had auto update turned off and the forum alerted us of a new release as has been done several times. I could easily look at my title bar to see if it is different that the new release instead of have to go to the about screen. I could also easily look there in case the forum mentions release specifc bugs or user problems.
Personally, I'd love to see this. There's certainly room in the tile bar to do it.
I did something like this several years ago in a couple of small in house applications I wrote for my office use in Visual Basic 6. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard for them to do it in whatever language they used to create Logos 4. (Just curious - anyone know what language was used to develope Logos 4?)

Yes, I think this idea has merit. If you want to resave the current layout, the way to do that is find the name of the current layout in your Layouts menu, right click on it, and choose "Update to current snapshot." But if you've forgotten the name of your current layout, you can't easily do that, can you? So having the name in the title bar would help.

I think this is a good suggestion. It would make it easier to tell which layout you're in with just a glance. As I pondered about this, I thought of a kind of klutz work-around. Below is a screenshot showing a notes file at the bottom left, below my narrowest column in this layout. The name of the notes file is the name of the layout. Even though it is as small as possible, it takes up lots more room than something on the title bar and is not automatically updated if I tweak the layout name. Anyway, I'm going to give it a try for a while

One other small benefit of this work-around is that I can use the notes file to document any changes made in the layout if I want. 0 -
On the Mac I have the words "Logos Bible Software 4" in two places: in the menu bar next to the Apple menu and then in the Logos window above the shortcuts. I don't think it really needs to be in two places. The space above the shortcuts seems like wasted space anyway--it's the place where most Mac apps put the name of the document you have open--so that seems like the best place to put it.. I can't think of any other Mac app that puts the name of the app there, since it's already in the menu bar.

You mean something other than what we have already (at least on Win)? Right-click on layout name on the Layout menu --> Update to current snapshot. Are you talking about right-click on the title bar itself? OK, I think you must be. I get it.

Must be [I] - update subset of contextual menu options from Layout - quick way to update current layout from Title bar display (perhaps with a keyboard shortcut).

I agree - the current way of doing things is far too 'intuitive'. I had to look in the help section just to find out that you have to click on the title of a snapshot to save it. How do you resave something? I am assuming that you have to retype the old name into the title of a new snapshot (although I haven't tried this yet).

Just read Rosie's discussion of how you resave something....so I guess everyone can ignore the second part of my post....although the process of resaving a snapshot also highlights what I feel is an overly intuitive approach. Many things in Logos far are 'hidden' from initial view - the positive of this is that things are uncluttered etc. but the negative is that some users may not even know that the functionality exists ... especially since Logos 4 is a work in progress. My suggestion is that Logos keep the hidden functionality (e.g. right click) but add more obvious functionality as well (menu bars or buttons to click etc).

I've already suggested cmd-s/ctrl-s for "save/update the current layout" a number of times. I still want it. [:)]

Apologies - wonder about screen mock-up showing GUI improvement suggestions for Mac and PC ?
Looked at Layout menu on Mac and PC - do not have idea where to add "Save As" text - did ponder right click on snapshot picture for Save As contextual menu plus thought about adding Save As to named layout contextual menu.
Also looked at Logos FIle Menu on Mac and PC - likewise not know where to add "Save Layout" or "Save Layout As"

Where it goes is determined by following the guidelines for the Mac UI. The problem is that the Logos developers have chosen to ignore these guidelines—at least as far as the File menu goes. Otherwise, there would be no question about where to put it.
