I'm scanning my library for any anomalies (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/14250.aspx) and noticed that my R. A. Torrey Collection doesn't have a series tag. Should it? I can't remember. Also, is there anywhere I can find this information for other series? I didn't find it listed in the wiki.
Most collections don't have series tags, though unfortunately there's no rhyme or reason as to when Logos provide tags and when they don't. Personally I think the logic ought to be that series tags should only be provided if the resources are part of a series in the paper-based release.
That's helpful, thanks. I'm troubleshooting a particular problem though and need to know if this (or A.W. Pink) has been tagged as a series in L4. Anyone?
After rebuilding my catalog database, I noticed my Tyndale Commentaries no longer had a series tag. After 15 minutes or so, the series tags began appearing one-by-one. Strange. Anyhow, now I'm wondering if I'm missing any others.
How about the C.H. Spurgeon Collection, A.W Pink, A.W. Tozer, or the Donald Bloesch's Systematic Theology? There are a lot of collections that, I would think, be tagged in a series.
These can be easily identified by author. Many series have multiple authors and the only connection would be that it belongs to a series in paper.
Thanks Floyd, but my question is "are these resources currently tagged with a series or not?" I have no problem locating them; I'm troubleshooting.
are these resources currently tagged with a series or not
The only way to tell is to look at your library ... or get someone else to look at their library. Unless you work exclusively offline, there is no reason to expect others to be more up to date than yourself.
But my point is that this may be the reason that they are not tagged as series - they are by the same author, not part of a series.
I'm not communicating well. If they were tagged as series in my library, I wouldn't have asked the question. My catalog.db was corrupt. I rebuilt it, but it appeared to mess up some of my resource metadata.
My question is, would someone look at their libraries and tell me if the collections I listed are tagged as a series in their libraries, or not?
Corrected metadata is supplied from Logos' servers, separate from the resource which is why you experienced what you did. (In other words, Logos can correct metadata without forcing you to re-download the entire resource.) It will slowly rebuilt itself as Logos syncs. I don't have Bloesch, but none of the others are supposed to have series info.
Ah, yea, I now understand. Unfortunately, I don't have the resource to check.

What is a series tag?
Thank you all! I think I'm ok...God bless.
If you right click on the heading of the library listing - you will see a list of ten or so categories that can listed for each resource. "Series" is one of these. You can change the title of a resource and you can add tags of our own ("My Tags"), but (IIRC) you cannot change the series tag.

Thank you!
In your library, your resources are associated with various types of data (metadata). Some resources, such as commentaries, are listed as part of a series. In your library tab you can sort by series and see all of your resources associated with that tag. It's handy. You can also assign your own tags and sort by those as well.
Your fast Floyd!
Maybe what is needed is a "Collection" tag - so those title that are part of a collection, though not part of series, can be identified.
That would make a lot of sense. Then you could distinguish between a series with various authors and a collection of works by a single author/same authors. Is that what you're thinking?
Yes - but only to the extent that the items were sold together. If what you want is books by a single author, you could use author - or add entries to "My Tags".

Hi Floyd, first thanks for that info, so what you're saying is that a collection might not be a "Series"? My Torrey "Collection" is not in the "Series" view, though there are quite a few selections that fall under Series. Under Author, Torry comes up 3 times with something under each one... if that is of help to anyone, though I'm not sure why that is the case.

Hi Floyd, first thanks for that info, so what you're saying is that a collection might not be a "Series"?
Correct - a collection might be a set of books put together by Logos or the original publisher based on some theme (e.g. author, theological perspective, Bible books such as OT or NT, etc.). A series would be a set of books by one or more authors published together as a set - either intentionally or over time. Individual books in a collection might be a pulled from a series because the contribute to the identified theme.
Note - a collection may also be all of the books in a series.
WHERE do you right click? I can't seem to get a list of categories no matter where I right-click. I must be right-click challenged!!!
In the nav bar bearing labels like 'title' and 'author'..... about a quarter of an inch above the top of the first book listed
Found the problem... You can only right-click when the view is in list mode. That was my problem! Thanks!
