Can't close tabs once iconized

iPad. (Desktop has right-click option.) Once you open enough resources to cause tabs to be scaled down to their icon only format, you cannot close those tabs. The 'X' is gone. Maybe I'm missing another way, but I had to change to a single panel wide layout to get them to resize so I could close.

    I can confirm I have seen these happen on a HP Envy 2 in 1 running Windows 10. I was in tablet mode at time. I think I also went to single panel mode as work around, but did not get to reporting it at time and haven't seen it since, probably because I have stuck to only 2 panels at a time.
