NA28 Apparatus Searching

So what I would like to do is search the apparatus for all the places within a given range in which two particular witnesses agree with one another. I also need to be able to identify whether or not a given witness is cited in support of the base text or a variant. If possible, I would like to exclude all variant units for which a base text (i.e. positive) apparatus is not provided though I should be able to work around this.

As an example search, I need a way to identify all the times that B (03) and F (010) are cited in support of the same reading in the book of Romans. To account for "block mixture" I will likely do the searches chapter by chapter (ultimately for every combination of consistently cited witnesses in every chapter of the NT).

An exceptionally tedious and time consuming manual comparison of Romans Chapter 8 revealed 20 citations of the first hand of B, 14 of which were chosen as the base text. Nine of these 20 were in agreement with the first hand of 01, while 10 of them agreed with 010 & 012 (which also agreed with each other in these 10 places). Is there any way to do this in Logos (or anywhere else for that matter!). Any help would be much appreciated!

Different apparatus, but the support witnesses are WH and NA28 for Romans chapter 1.

More complicated. Support from WH but not from RP

However, the + marker has to be disregarded as it means additional text from RP

All I can say is that you need to export, and write script outside Logos, for what you're wanting. And if it's more than a paper, you should just get used to writing parsers ... I have hundreds. I bought Libby 12 years ago, just to parse one of the resources. Logos is great for supporting analysis outside its environs.

I was using SBLGNT Apparatus where WH and NA28 are witnesses, and using its Search Fields, below:-

If the Resource Information (i within a circle) of your apparatus has similar Fields you can search as illustrated using its witnesses. Post a screen shot if not sure (and one from the text of the apparatus).

Thanks! There are some fields to work with. Is there a way to build a search with multiple levels, i.e., x in field 1 and y in field 2 andnot z in field 3?

field1:x AND field2:y ANDNOT field3:z (no space before and after the colon).

I don't have time to experiment with it right now, but remember you can also do interesting things by running the concordance tool, if you have it, on the apparatus (you can limit the tool to specific passages).

The NA28 apparatus and SBLGNT apparatus are much, much different beasts. They note different things and use different fields (the NA28 doesn't really have a "positive" and "negative" apparatus; they list contrary witnesses first and (maybe) list supporting witnesses preceded by "txt").

Here's my best shot with NA28 Apparatus. Note use of "Texts" (which is equivalent with "stuff noted in the 'txt' portion") and the uncial field.

The SBLGNT Apparatus lists editions that agree and disagree with the reading of the SBLGNT text; they are not to be read as witnesses in support of or against the SBLGNT text. That is, they indicate *presence* or *absence* of the SBLGNT reading in a referenced edition. The purpose is documentary. "Witness" is language that indicates support, and the SBLGNT apparatus uses editions for documentary purposes.

Thanks, Dave, I'll have to check that out. My reflex action was due to criticism of the apparatus when it was released where those criticising assumed the listed editions/witnesses performed the same function as those in the NA apparatus.
