SBL Hebrew vowels

So I have enabled right to left typing in Microsoft Word, and can type in Hebrew (I am using SBL); what I am wondering is how to type in the vowel marks. Pressing shift while hitting the key does not seem to work, is there somthing I am doing wrong? Thanks...

Unfortunately I run XP. I suggest that you ask on the fonts forum http://forum.fontlab.com/sbl-fonts-b44.0. I assume that you've read the SBL site with regards to selecting a keyboard which I suspect is the root of your problem.

You need to install a Hebrew Keyboard. There are many to choose from, but I'm partial to the one found here:

The downloadable file is a self-extracting exe file, so make sure to extract everything to a folder you can find easily. Then just run the setup program in the unzipped folder. There is a PDF documenting the keyboard layout.

I think I have already done this..I can type the consonants. I am just having trouble with vowels...

If you installed the default Hebrew Keyboard that comes with Windows, it is based on the Israeli keyboard. I've never tried it, but according to the Web it is possible to do the vowels with that keyboard, but it is ridiculously unintuitive. You have to depress the CAPS LOCK key, then use SHIFT+number row keys to type the vowels.

That's why I recommend the Logos Keyboard instead. In the Logos keyboard, short vowels live on the normal, unshifted state about where you'd expect them to be. Long vowels use the SHIFT key and the half-length vowels use the RightALT key. So for example, 'a' gives patach, A (SHIFT+a) gives qamets, and RightALT+a gives Hateph-patach. Easy to remember when using a QWERTY layout, and no messing with CAPSLOCK states.
