Considering Renewal of Logos Now, Unsure Of What I'm Really Giving Up

Hello Forums. My annual renewal date of LN is coming up next month and I'm considering wether or not I would like to drop $100 to renew it. My problem is after having it for a year (I subscribed when I purchased L7) and only knowing L7 with LN, I don't really know what I am going to miss if I choose to save the money and not join again.
I also purchased the Full Feature Set when I got L7 (the Base Package discount with LN on my upgrade made sense to subscribe and purchase, I prefer purchasing over subscription). I feel I've definitely gotten my $$ worth over the past year, but am not certain I want to continue it. I know I will miss out on the LN Free Book of the Month (but if it's continuing to be mostly PD Books, I'm not gonna be bummed on that), the preview resources have never really interested me, Bible Browser (1.0 or 2.0?)/WebApp/Fuzzy Search are all L7 features now.
So my question is... why should I spend $100 on LN instead of putting it somewhere else? I don't know if I would miss it. Any help out there?

Since you have a strong preference for purchasing, it might not be worth your while. I have similar preference for books, but not for features. LN is a considerably better value over the long term, if you understand that you will lose features when you stop subscribing. I fall into that category, so a LN subscription is a no brainer.
If I purchased the full feature set, I would not subscribe to LN. Here is what you would miss out on though:
- Special savings (ie. recent coupon code, discounts)
- FUTURE features NOW (you will have to wait to purchase L8 "full feature set" to gain L8 features)
- Other benefits, TBD.

Since you already own the L7 feature set (and aren't interested in the free PD books), it sounds like the discount is the only benefit that would be worth it for you. If you have no plans to purchase a library or feature set until L8 comes out, you could probably take a year off and not miss anything.
Of course, there's some new feature supposedly coming in 7.9 or 7.10 -- it already slipped a few releases -- but we don't know what it is yet.
Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

I would advocate to keep it because they have given some good additonal discounts for Logos Now that makes the membership worth it. Especially in May when they gave $50 off a $100 purchase. That is just my opinion, it only breaks down to about $8.50 a month but it is entirely up to you. In your post it sounds like you are more convinced not to renew.

Thanks for the input!

This is my biggest concern by dropping it. What features, outside of the L7 Full Feature Set, would I loose? Searching the LN Feature Page, I am just not sure what would go away. If I knew what I would loose that I am enjoying, then that would keep me in the game.

This is my concern - the discounts are pretty rad (but honestly, I'm really already blessed to have the Academic Discount), like the $50 off. That was a a help with the WBC sale, buuuuttt I feel like I would subscribe to a "Hope" in something that would be come.
I'm probably 70/30 on this. 70% of me wants to drop it, but the 30% wants to keep it. I'm looking for a good solid reason to keep it, I guess?

Some features are still only available with a subscription.
I believe this includes Moph Query, Lemma in Passage, some Hebrew-specific search options and some Media only collections
it done think it's completely updated but the "Logos Cloud Feature Set" column at https://www.logos.com/compare/feature-sets gives an indication of this

Oh! So then Logos Cloud includes LN Features/Datasets? Looking at it I can easily see what is Logos Cloud (Now?) exclusive, compared to the Full and Extended Feature Set. If this is so, then that is what I am looking for to help me see what LN-Only features I will be missing!

Sorry, I can't be of help. [:s] I would lose everything post L6.

Nah, your comment was helpful in framing the other benefits. I always appreciate your input Alabama!

Yeah, that link helps!
I can see how LN would have less value for you, Richard, already having the academic discount and having purchased the Logos 7 Full Feature Set. Like some of the other users in this thread, I've found the value of Logos Now to increase over time, including most of the benefits that you and others have already mentioned: three or more coupons/credits so far (including $50 recently), discounts (e.g., on BPs, feature sets, books, etc.), two free sets of books (which were promotions to attract new members and retain old ones), the choice of a free book each month, LN exclusive features and additional media, L8 features (including older feature sets for those who don't own them), and access to free resource previews and a mobile-ed course (which I personally haven't made much use of).
For me it has been more than worth it on the basis of the coupons/credits, discounts, and features alone, although like Alabama I didn't purchase the Logos 6 and 7 feature sets. Other benefits like choosing a "free" book each month (or twelve in total per year) are icing on the cake. I've found a number of gems even among their public domain offerings, although others that I'd definitely grab currently aren't available. The value of LN benefits will obviously vary for each customer.

Per month, what is the free PD book worth to you? For me, it is maybe $3. Lemma in passage is worth $2 a month. The random discounts save me some more, so I would subscribe to just those for $3 a month. The Mobile Ed loaner is worth $1 a month (I don't get the appeal) and the preview resources are worth 0. The L7 features are worth $5 a month (I always assumed that if I got ready to cancel Now, I would do so right after purchasing. Purchasing while I have an active subscription doesn't make much sense. So, you can see that I get $14 a month in value for about $9. So, to me, Logos now is a fair bargain, but certainly not a windfall. The best course is probably to add up the individual values of everything to you and see if it breaks even.

But I don't care! I am very glad to save the money. I am no longer in vocational (church) ministry, and so most of the features I don't use. For me, Logos has always been about having a digital library. Most of the features I use are included with the free core engine.
Similarly: For the large part I have stopped buying movies and use Netflix, etc.; I always purchase my music and would not ever use spotify. I am very happy with those choices.

Good insight.
Adam, I think the coupons discounts alone have paid my this past year of LN! My hope would be that it continues.
Justin, I like how you broke down the $1 per $1 monthly value:cost.

I suspect the coupons came about because we weren't getting many new features every six weeks.
While perks and other benefits can pay for the cost of the subscription, I wouldn't mind a return to regular new features again (in place of the coupons).

I second this approach, which I intend to use when considering renewing myself.

I have never read any promises of every six weeks. The six weeks is engine builds, but not (necessarily) new LN features.

The "promise" is right at the top of the LN release cycle timeline. "Logos Now members enjoy new capabilities every six weeks." For L6, we generally had a minimum of 2-3 new LN features each six weeks, and sometimes 6-7 new features.
I do think FL has been trying to compensate LN members for recently not being able to ship new features every six weeks, but we are getting other important improvements (such as performance, and a new notes system), and I'm grateful for all the ongoing developments.
I'm not unhappy or complaining. My LN has still been a great value for me.

Thanks for that. I vaguely remember someone pointing that out before. I'm getting old. [:)]
Faithlife needs to live up to the promise, or (in my opinion) take down that wording.

Richard, I would say keep it if you can afford it. Honestly, the $99 a year value has been worth it to a lot of people for numerous reasons. See how it goes for one more year?

That's kinda how I feel too - that they had a large pipeline of product and feature improvements that filled the LN six-week promise for L6, then, for whatever reason, things slowed down around L7. Or maybe the improvements were not visibly noticeable (under the hood improvements, etc.) so that's when the Free Books and Coupons begin to surface to make up for the lack of "wow" releases.

At one point FL tried to clarify what they considered to be 'new features' and saud it include improvements to existing features I.e the improvements are the new bit. While I am comfortable with stretching 'new features' thst far I agree the wording is misleading but sadly reflective of my major beef with FL marketing. They too often stretch the truth tio far. The wording of this does need to be looked at and it needs to be reflective of what they are actually able to achieve.
