Tagging sections of books

It would be great if we could tag sections (sentences, paragraphs) within books so that we could later quickly collate all that we've come across on a particular topic or theme from an author or book or books.

For instance, suppose one is reading Plato's Republic and they come to his remarks on the soul having three parts. It would be great if we could select that "paragraph" and then add a tag to it: "Soul"

P.S. And if anyone has some knowledge of how we might be able to do something similar please let me know.

I was thinking of a tag that isn't visible unless you run a search for it, but this can be accomplished by simply not inserting any text into the "insert text" field.

One possible problem I am quickly seeing though: a tagged section of a book automatically creates a pop-up cue every time the cursor is over the text. This can be very distracting, especially when you have a larger section (several paragraphs) with multiple tags. You have a very large pop-up constantly appearing as you move your cursor of the text as one normally does.

Anyway to adjust this?

I'm not sure that you can disable the popup feature of the label.

The whole point of a label is the popup, so if you don't want that, I'd suggest just using a regular note attachment/highlight with some kind of unobtrusive yet distinguishable marking.

It sounds like you want to be able to search, but don't want to see any indicator in the text. The easy way to accomplish this is to turn off the visual filter for the Notes document that contains your labels.

Thanks for the help, James. The point or usefulness of the label (for me) has nothing to do per se with the pop-up, though I suppose that could have some secondary benefit. My use case is to be able to search and collate all the relevant passages on, say, love in the works of Plato.

(Of course if FaithLife wants to start tagging their Noet resources the way they do with the Bible that would be fine by me too [:)])

FYI, I've already been able to make practical use of this feature. Was reading a logic textbook in prep for teaching lesson and came to a section and thought "Doesn't Plato say something similar to this regarding the rational soul?" and was able to run a quick search on sections I have been tagging the last few days and find exactly what I needed. Very helpful feature (though it's a slow going process to do the initial tagging).
