Search Syntax to find a Sermon by Augustine

Hello, I have pretty much every resource of Augustine that logos offers, so I should have his Sermon 166.

Can someone tell me the search syntax to use to find his sermons?

Trying a variety things in both the library and the search bar with no results.

The first consideration would be to Basic-search an existing or impromptu collection of Augustine's works - I used the latter with specifying author:Augustine

Then it was just using Sermon 166 and tweaking a bit - learning that (as with probably many Latin Fathers, the counting is in Latin numbers sometimes I came up with Sermon AND (CLXVI, 166)

And this finds e.g. https://ref.ly/logosres/slsrhmtrtstgstn0102?ref=Bible.Eph4 which was referred in another work as Sermon 166, too (it seems there are two differenet ways of counting - not unusual in the works of the Fathers).

EDIT: Note that this search plays upon the fact that sermons are called Sermon XYZ in the work that I own and not only numbered. You may want to tweak that a bit when you know about the way sermons are titled in the works you own. Just searching for 166 OR CLXVI would work and be more thorough, but has too many false positives for my liking (Augustine's Letter 166 or works having/citing a page 166).

One idea is to organize the works of Augustine into a collection, then since the text of this homily is on Ep 4.25 search the collection using syntax <Bible Ep 4.25> this should have Sermon 166 among its results. Sorry, I can't test if this is so since I do not have Sermon 166 among my resources, but I do know that this search returns relevant results.

Thanks so much for both your help - oddly enough, neither of the search syntax results seemed to work for me to pull it up, yet I was able to pull up the reference link mentioned by N.B. Nick, and I actually had that resource in my library so I was able to get the source quote I was looking for - it is in old english translation, but will do.

true, but your search requires that knowledge beforehand. And it will have the desired result(s) among all other locations where Augustine referred to Eph 4:25. However, in my limited collection of Augustine's works that's only 12 locations in 7 resources, which is okay to go through.

Edit:

One can use this knowledge in a more precise search:

{Label Sermon WHERE Creator ~ <Biography Augustine of Hippo> AND References ~ <Eph 4> }

(this complex syntax is best built from any sermon and then tweaked to show results)

With Andrew's help in the Beta Forum I even found a better way, coming from the fact that once I had my one hit I saw that there is a Logos datatype for Augustine (and a second one for his sermons in alternative enumeration). So one can directly search for that sermon only - even through the whole library.

Search for

{Milestone <AugustineSermB = Augustine, Sermon (Benedictine) 166>} OR {Milestone <Augustine = Augustine, Sermon (NPNF) 116>}

will find exactly this sermon in all works where it was tagged with one of the datatypes as a milestone:

(i.e. such a search is precise and avoids false positives, however it will not find works in your library with substandard tagging, such as Vyrso books or Perseus or maybe some resources from the Great Books collection. The bible reference search would find those, too)
