Theologically where does Mcgee stand? Reformed? Ive heard little about him and was wondering if anyone could shed some light for me!
Thanks
the quick & short answer is that he's a moderate Calvinist (4 pointer... he doesn't hold to limited atonement) who is also dispensational along the lines of Scofield & Chafer
Thanks for the info![8-|]
Are you sure he holds to Unconditional Election? Doesn't he believe election is conditional based on faith?
Does he really believe Total Depraivity? Doesn't he believe in free will?
Maybe he is a two pointer. That would make him more Arminian than Calvinist, wouldn't it?
Not according to his commentary on Ephesians 1:4
[quote]God chose believers in Christ before the foundation of the world, way back in eternity past. That means that you and I didn’t do the choosing. He did not choose us because we were good or because we would do some good, but He did choose us so that we could do some good. The entire choice is thrown back upon the sovereignty of the wisdom and goodness of God alone.
Thanks. That is helpful, and I may be mistaken about his theology. I didn't intend it to be critical of him.
“Whoever you are, He’s your Savior and He’s the only Savior. ‘Specially of those that believe.’ He is the Savior of all men, but you can turn Him down if you want to. Let me illustrate this for you. They say that a plane leaves the Los Angeles International Airport every minute, and I could get on any one of them (if I had the courage!). All I need to do is get a ticket and get on the plane. It’s a plane for everybody, you see, but not everybody will take it. Christ is the Savior of all men, but only those who believe will be saved (see John 3:16; 1 John 2:2).” J. Vernon McGee
True- but on God's plane only He can "give" you the ticket.
Not wanting a theological debate, but I believe McGee would agree with 3 of the 5 points of TULIP (TUP).
Isn't it wonderful that we have his thoughts in such detail? How many modern ministries would dodge any question like that like dodging a skunk? Also, JVM's radio shows can be downloaded to your Ipod/Blackberry (entire Bible) for free....now there's a guy spreading the word - as opposed to some of the ministries that charge an arm&leg for tapes/dvd's.
