Max Botner has published a revised version of his exceptional JBL article challenging the consensus view of Mark 1:24 on theLAB. This is the first time the Academic Blog has been privileged to publish an academic peer-reviewed article online, which is quite a first for any academic blog.

I'd certainly give the author an 'A' for a series of might-be's ending in a 'plausible' (instead of 'as I demonstrated'). Refreshing.

But being the usual odd-lady-out, the 1st century audience would be well familiar with demon-killing (need to know their name). And in reverse, demon-defense (idenifying which spirit in the human Jesus). As after his baptism. Simplest is bestest. Mark knew all about demons.
