Crash & Freeze

I had just opened the program,
- Clicked on Library Icon
- Began to type the resource I wanted
- Crashed (Sent report to MS)
- Frozen screen (Had to use Task Manager to end Program)

This freezing of screen has been happening quite a lot, but I thought it was because indexing was happening at the same time. This time, however, there was no indexing happening.

Hi the log file doesn't seem to show any crash information, can you reproduce this? Sometimes the program doesn't get a chance to log the error it had and so the issue must be reproduced for us to resolve it, thanks.

    George,

It did the exact same thing first thing this morning, I don't know if it will be in the log ... But, just now, I clicked the pronunciation icon and the system crashed. It allowed me to send a report to Microsoft but then froze. I had to use the task manager in Windows to end the process to get out of it. I've attached the log again. I will experiment with the first issue some more to see if the steps can be consistently replicated. Thanks.

    George,

It seems that no matter what, if I open the Library and begin to type something in, it will freeze & crash. I've tried many times and have sent the reports to Microsoft. This is new as of the last day or so because I have had no problem like this before. Any ideas how I can get the ability to view my library back? I have again included the newest log file. Thanks.

Hi, looks like a problematic resource, we'll need some more details please download this (right-click -> save as) http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/LDLS4InstallerTest/EnableLogging.js and run it, then reproduce this crash, and include both logos4.log and logos4indexer.log (you may zip them up), then we can narrow it down. If you wanna give it a shot with the already known problematic resources (list is incomplete) you may find them and move them, see http://community.logos.com/forums/t/1557.aspx, let me know if you have any questions.

    • I downloaded and ran the link above.
    • Started Logos
    • Clicked Library icon (opened Library window)
    • Typed "L" in the text box
    • Program froze (as before)
    • It did not ask me to send a report to Microsoft
    • I had to Crtl-Alt-Delete to get to the Task Manager to quite the process to stop it

I've attached the log files. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your help.

Oops ... here's the other log file.

(I thought I uploaded both - The second upload seemed to overwrite the first. Can you only attached one file per post?)

Question, I have had several crashes to where it tried to log out to MS but it never does it just hangs. I usually have to cancel the send and end V4. Any thoughts??? It has happened doing various things, but when I go to ty and recreate it doesn't seem to do it.

Trying to spend more time documenting what I am doing before hand. Just wanted to put it out there.

    In Christ,

Hi, sometimes the program shuts down before it gets a chance to write to the log file, the latest log files attached don't show any signs of crashing. Can you try again? Thanks.

I don't know what to do. Everytime I go directly to the Library and begin to type something, the program freezes. I have to end the process to get out. It never writes a log. I am on Beta 3. Oh well, I can still continue to test other things. The following is a capture of the frozen Library window after typing a couple of letters.

I have just discovered that the Crash & Freeze only happen when the Library window is in the above View (What I call "List View")
There seems to be no problem when the Library is in the other view (Larger Covers)
The Crash & Freeze even happens if I have already looked something up in the "Larger Cover" view and switch back to "List view" and begin typing something.

Jim ~  Is Logos 4 still crashing or freezing when you sort your library in Beta 8?  ~ Thanks, Melissa

    Melissa,

Yes. I love v4 but I must admit I've gone back to v3 out of frustration. Beta 6 was a little more stable (still had problem mentioned above) but Beta 8 seems to crash all the time -- typing in a title in the library, sorting by author in library or collections window, etc, etc.. The frustrating thing is the program never writes an error to the log so I've stopped wasting your time sending logs. I still try to follow the forums but I guess I'll have to hope someone else has the problem so it will eventually get fixed by release, or maybe I'll have to do a complete uninstall/reinstall sometime - unfortunately that isn't going to happen right away. Sorry ... but v4 has just gotten too frustrating (not to mention impossible) to use. I'll install Beta 9 this weekend and try some more. Thanks for checking in. You guys are amazing.

    God Bless,
    Jim.

    Melissa,

Beta-9...my hero!  Beta-9 seems to have corrected the problems that I was having. I am once again in love with v4 as my tool of choice. Thanks guys for all of your hard work.
