Hi, I just see this is set to ship in 3 days. Wondering if anybody is familiar with it, and has reflections on it's usefulness (how useful, and in what way). Thanks.
well, Dan, I can tell you they LOOK good, but I would be interested in hearing from some others how good they actually are. Thanks for asking!
Dan, I'd have to agree with Dan that they DO look good! I'm interested to know of anyone who has seen the resources or have read from the authors too. [:D]
Mighty tempted to go ahead and take a chance on them.

lol, Brian, and I agree with you!
This is a nice set, however it is rather simple. Really it is not much more than you would find in an "into to the OT/NT" sort of textbook. It is just that they have been divided into individual volumes, rather than attempting to cover an entire Testament in one book. There are some real standout authors though, so this alone mine be enough to convince some. They would be helpful for preparing lessons for 1st year college students, or perhaps a Bible study setting. It is perhaps also worth noting (if I remember correctly) that the pictures are not in colour. Hope this helps, blessings to you, Matt
I have the first vol., 'The Pentateuch.' I used it for one of my classes on the OT. If you're looking for just a summary of the Pentateuch, then this is an ok resource. You're not going to get anything of real indepthness here. There are no colour pictures, there are a handful of charts and some drawings. If you've already had any OT courses, whether in seminary or B-School, then this is probably not going to add anything to you. If however, you're looking for a brief description of the Books of the Pentateuch then this would be a good buy.
If you already have a good base in the OT & NT then there are other resources that you should purchase. As you know there are many fairly indepth books on the L4 site to choose from. I've recently purchased Paul House' Old Testament Theology and will be buying the Origins of Ancient Israelite Religion.
Other fine books would include:
Hebrew History 3 Vols.
Kingdom of Priests,
Old Testament Survey: The Message, Form and Background of the OT.
some of these books were textbooks in Seminary.
For a more dated but helpful OT book(s) cf. Intro. to the OT 3 vol set with Harrison, Young and Craigie.; and An Intro to the OT Series (Pentateuch by Wolf) etc.
Hope this helps
Thanks. I WISH we had previews of the works. What drew me were the authors and the idea that it would give a "study approach" to the various parts. I especially noted vol. 1 which had "activities" for the student. I reasoned that this might be helpful when I prepare studies for others. however, not all volumes promise "activities" and this DOES seem to be very introductory. I will probably pass on this, after at first being very enthused about it. Wondered if it might be helpful to my daughters, too (but they are a bit young for it .. . elementary age).
Here is the link, if anyone is interested.
