What is the best English dictionary in Logos?
You mean like Websters? Or Bible Dictionary?
If the first, then the 11th edition of Merriam-Websters Collegiate, in my opinion.
You don't have many choices, as far as I know:
Depends on your need.
The next two are British and the definitions reflect the differences in dialects:
I use all three of the previous, linked together in one pane.
If only we had the full Oxford English Dictionary...then we'd not need anything else. In its place you should bid on The Century Dictionary (12 vols.), though it looks like that may never make it to production either.
I have:
Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Eleventh Edition and Concise Oxford English Dictionary, 11th ed. I should have posted that in my original question, but I thought there were a lot more options and those wouldn't be suggested.
I was looked for something meatier. I was hoping there were some options I wasn't aware of. I guess not. I'll purchase Collins English Dictionary—Complete and Unabridged
I'm not interested in historical definitions, so no to the American Dictionary of the English Language by Noah Webster
Thanks everyone for your help!
Be aware the definitions in the CED aren't longer or more detailed than Merriam-Webster's. There's just more entries.
That's great info. I may need to hold off and look at my options then.
