Feature Request for hiding resources

Being a Logos member in good standing (ie. I've spent more than my spouse is happy about) I have a ton of resources. (I assume many of you are like me in that regard.) What I would like to do (but cannot currently) is to distribute my resources to two computers differently (as opposed to mirroring them). For instance, on my desktop I want to have virtually all of my resources available, but on my laptop I want to be able to have just my favorite resources available. Unfortunately, the resources are tied to one's account instead of to one's particular installation. I doubt that this feature has any likelihood of being added, but I want to know if there are any others who would find something like this useful...who knows, perhaps Logos would even change its mind on this. It would seem in today's world where it is quite common to work on two or more computers, that tying the resources to the installation would be a much better way to go.

Sorry for not noticing William's post below...the work around is intriguing, but only partially since it comes at great cost (not being able to sync online).

Not necessarily + this is contrary to the Logos philosophy of ensuring that an installation will have all licenced resources available for use. None can be "missing" unless you officially Hide them. Therefore, the licence is tied to the user not the installation (I think you know this but I repeat for emphasis wrt both philosophy and the EULA). It could be tied to the user and the installation but not for your purposes - we really don't want to go down the track of anti-piracy.

The usual reason for restricting resources is hard drive space and/or a slow CPU for indexing. If neither is an issue then you can restrict searching to one or more collections of favourite resources! If you would be more specific about your need I'm sure the forum users can provide some workarounds.

Is there another William on the forums now? I have not seen one. William is not that uncommon a name. I don't think I did this as I am not really sure about how to not sync online.

I was guessing what the OP meant by "post below" - so the context could have quite innocent and not as "dark" as I assumed. I hope Paul will clarify when he responds.

I wasn't sure how to do it either. But I just tried typing William into the "Search this site" box that is at the top of every forum page. The results weren't very helpful, but at least on that results page I saw a more helpful Search form which I hadn't known how to get to before:

That let me narrow the search down to just posts written by someone with "William" in their name (either first or last name). Still a lot of posts to weed through, but it was manageable. Better than including all the posts by everyone who was responding to and quoting someone named William or recommending a book by an author name william, etc., which the first search did.

I would defintely be interested in the ability to have the "user and installation" option. I don't quibble with the need for user validating. However, to require, say, a laptop and a desktop, or a new PC and an older one, to both have lockstep installations is far from ideal.

But, hard drive space and/or CPU/memory "oomph" is often a big difference between a user's two machines. (I know it always seems to be for me, anyway... [:)] )

I can see why he would want to do it, and if I had more limited hard disk space on my laptop, I might want to do it too. I do all my hardcore study and sermon prep at home on my desktop computer. I only use my laptop when I'm travelling, in which case I'm not likely to be needing my complete Logos library (with over 3000 reference works in it). I would want to have access to the basics, though, for devotional reading, for example. Or maybe I'd be in the middle of reading one particular book from my library that I'd want to have available.

I doubt there will be an official solution for hardware deficiencies...ever! The wiki documents some unofficial methods for quick installation to avoid downloading and indexing provided you have the hard drive space and a working installation on one machine. But if the performance is slow you'll have to grin and bear it (try Use Internet = NO or Work Offline). Then you can always revert to using L3 until you can upgrade your hardware.

PS. some laptop manufacturers provide a system partition and a data partition on the hard drive. If the system or C: drive is full then perform a Custom installation to the data or drive.
