Problem

I am a Logos 4 user, and this software is my first Logos.
My PC has been kept Logos icon at its tool bar(?), and it says "it is indexing ##hours" (I think it started to say that end of last month) even though I did not index my Logos. And I cannot use my Logos' research section. It cannot find any word anywhere. (it cannot find the word "love" anywhere its Bible).
Yukiyo Miyazaki
PS; I am sorry about my poor English.

Yukiyo,
Indexing happens automatically after you install Logos. It must complete (to build the index) before you can search for any words in Logos. It usually takes only a few hours, not more than a week! It is surprising that it is taking so long for you.
Are you turning off your computer before the indexing is finished? You need to leave your computer on as long as the Logos icon is still showing "indexing" -- best to leave it overnight and be sure to disable the automatic hibernation mode -- to complete the indexing process. Otherwise it will have to start over again when you turn the computer on again.
If you have already left the computer running for many hours and it is still not complete indexing, then there might be some glitch that happened part way through which is preventing it from completing. Try typing "rebuild index" in the Logos command bar (at the top of the Logos window) and it should force the process to start over fresh.
Also, what are your system specs? It might be that you don't have enough RAM to complete the indexing process. See the minimum and recommended system requirements here: http://www.logos.com/support/techfaq

Logos needs to index the library before the 'research' portions of the program will work properly. If you can let the index run over night or as long as needed. The index starts from the beginning everytime the operating system is closed down.
No problem with your english, its great to have you on the forum!
EDIT: this forum does funny things, your post Martha wasn't there when I hit reply, and it certainly didn't take me 10 minutes to write my response..?

And I don't see a post by Martha anymore. Or did you mean me?
It does sometimes take a couple of minutes for posts to show up on the forum. I have no idea what is the cause of the delay.

(Rosie's post) I probably butchered the meaning using MT.

What's MT (apart from Masoretic Text)?
Machine translation. You can translate it back from the Japanese using Google Translator if you're so inclined.

I suspect Yukiyo's problem may be a problem of Logos under Japanese windows - I had a similar (and other) problems with Chinese Windows, but that was also running under Parallels in Mac so I wasn't sure which one was to blame. Anyway all is fine now after uninstalling the Chinese Windows 7 and installing English Windows.

Oh, I should have known. I love Google Translate. But it's really funny when you run some text through it and back out the other direction:

It is surprising that you took so long for it. I have to turn off your computer before the end of indexing. Hmm...if somebody explained something about Logos to me in a like manner I'd be hard pressed to figure out what on earth they were talking about. [:)]

Most automated online translators will make funny or embarrassing mistakes every now and then. If I use them I run it back & forth several times through different apps to pick the best translation. I got that one using Y@hoo, G@@gle & B@bylon. I am rearranging my home office setup and don't have any Japanese input system on my Vista desktop. I thought the problem needed a quick response and Rosie had already posted an excellent answer. So I took a chance and did the Machine Translation ("MT") I have a much better professional level program (Atlas "W" pack) that isn't installed on my Vista machine so I ran with what I had.
I am a little distressed to hear Amy had problems with Chinese Windows 7 and Logos indexing. I'm updating all my computers to Win7 Ultimate (multi-lingual) and had hoped I could just toggle back & forth. Morris Proctor told me a cut & past of Japanese text into search boxes should work just as well as Greek or Hebrew so long as i have Japanese text in my library. I am hoping to integrate the Libronix Japanese/Greek Interlinear program with my Version 4.
Meanwhile Thomas Black is patiently waiting for me to try his Ooo app for importing into sermon file in Version 3. (I gotta get some of this done.[:|] )
