I just switched over to the Logos product side with the intent of buying early Christian resources (Desert Fathers) only to discover this important thread of historical Christian development is missing. I would suggest any or all of the following for inclusion in Logos:

  • The Desert Fathers by John F Thornton (Editor), Helen Jane Waddell (Translator), M Basil Pennington, Father, O.C.S.O. (Preface by)
  • The Wisdom of the Desert: Sayings from the Desert Fathers of the Fourth Century by Thomas Merton (Translator)
  • The Way of the Heart: The Spirituality of the Desert Fathers and Mothers by Henri J M Nouwen
  • Where God Happens: Discovering Christ in One Another and Other Lessons from the Desert Fathers by Rowan Williams, Professor Desmond Tutu (Foreword by)
  • In the Heart of the Desert: The Spirituality of the Desert Fathers and Mothers: With a Translation of Abba Zosimas' Reflections by John Chryssavgis, Kallistos Ware (Foreword by)
  • The Desert Fathers: Sayings of the Early Christian Monks by Various, Benedicta Ward (Introduction by)
  • The Sayings of the Desert Fathers: The Alphabetical Collection by Benedicta Ward
  • The Lives of the Desert Fathers by Sister Benedicta Ward Slg, Norman Russell
  • Beasts and saints by Helen Waddell, Robert Gibbings, Esther De Waal
  • The world of the Desert Fathers : stories and sayings from the Anonymous Series of the Apophthegmata Patrum by Columba Stewart
  • Four Desert Fathers: Pambo, Evagrius, Macarius of Egypt, and Macarius of Alexandria: Coptic Texts Relating to the Lausiac History of Palladius by Tim Vivian
  • To Pray & to Love: Conversations with the Deserts Fathers by Roberta C Bondi

I tried for a breadth of theologies, but fear that beyond Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican I don't know any sources. If someone knows of other translations, especially Lutheran, I would love to have them added to the list.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."
