How do I hide a resource in Logos 7?
In my Logos 7, Program Settings I have a list of Hidden Resources at the bottom. How do I hide additional resources.
Thank you!
Karl
Check the section on "How do I remove a book from my Library?" in your help file.
thank you for the answer.
WOW this is PAINFUL. Each time I drag a resource, the list goes back to the top. VERY poor user experience.
Why can't users multi-select or provide a checkbox or right click action.
This feature is not user friendly. Please update it.
Why can't users multi-select ...
Many Library resources can be selected at once. Help mentions dragging selected resources to hide. Logos Wiki => Hiding and Unhiding Books mentions keyboard shortcut in Library.
Curious why hiding ?
FYI: seem to remember some older discussions about free Perseus collection purchases. Instead of hiding was easier to request Customer Service to lock collections for removal from library.

Multi-select does not work. Have you actually tried to use it? The help is incorrect.
User experience is everything in software. It took me an hour to hide 650 resources, one at a time. Painful to be sure.
I'm with you, I love Logos, this workflow needs improvement.
Best,
My apologies for sending you to the help file for this. I didn't realize you were trying to hide a number of resources. The description in the help file works acceptably for hiding single resources, but not for dealing with multiples.
This link might help for selecting multiple resources and for hiding resources without needing to drag: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/143726.aspx
This works too (the process is unchanged since Logos 5): https://www.logos.com/training/logos5/hide-resources
I hope this helps.
Multi-select and drag does not work in Logos 7.
The right click menu does not display Hide Resource in Logos 7.
Can you get either of these to actually work in Logos 7?
I was able to use https://www.logos.com/training/logos5/hide-resources on PC.
It is a bit tricky. I help shift and right clicked on 2 sources. Then while still holding the shift key I had the option to Hide and clicked it. They both went away. I might not have needed to hold the shift down while selecting them and only when I wanted to get the context menu to show Hide. Try it again if you still have several to do.
Yes, why hide? I sometimes find 'gems' in books I would never open except that they came up in a search.
Yes it does. KS4J pointed you to the wiki article at https://wiki.logos.com/Hiding_Books which explains in detail. The point is that the command option will show up when you use the CTRL key - this is to avoid users hiding many books by accident, as unhiding may be cumbersome and users may not be aware of having hidden relevant books.
Yes, was able to hide 24 selected resources from one Right Click using Logos 7.10 RC2
Caveat: unhiding was done one at a time: click X for first resource caused that resource to be unhidden so next one now has X in same spot.
Not using the RC version. Be looking forward to this in the next RTM release.
Logos 7.10 RC2 and Verbum 7.10 RC2 (7.10.0.0019) were released to stable RTM channels on Mon 16 Oct 2017. Logos wiki has => Logos 7 Beta Program
Verified hiding removed resources from Library (plus verified hiding of 24 resources from one click worked). Unhiding caused resource(s) to be downloaded (when Use Internet is set to Yes) and indexed (if needed).
This feature has been available for a long, long time. No need to wait for the next RTM release. As indicated above, you need to hold down the Ctrl key when right clicking in order for the Hide option to show up in the right click menu.
Andrew,
OK, got it. This is so foreign to the way the rest of Windows works. The SHIFT and CTRL keys provide the extended selection in lists.
Having to then press the CTRL key to change the Context Menu is very undiscoverable and does not conform to Windows standards.
Maybe they can fix this.
Right clicking, irrespective how an item got selected, should open the same Content Menu;
Please send this to development.

Concur Logos and Verbum has some user interface conventions that are different than Mac and Windows.
Looking forward to Right Click in resources being revamped.
FYI: Apple established many commercial user interface conventions (with paid permission to copy from Xerox). Microsoft cloned them. After "look and feel" lawsuit by Apple, Microsoft choose to be visually different in many ongoing releases.
Curious why hiding ? Yes, why hide? I sometimes find 'gems' in books I would never open except that they came up in a search.
Concur search has found many articles to consider in various resources. Personally have one resource hidden, which is a Libronix 3 Quick Start Guide that does not work in Logos 4 and newer.

I'm glad you got it working.
You might be surprised to discover that holding down the shift key while right-clicking on a file or folder in the Windows file Explorer will result in making an additional option available ("Copy as path").
You are correct that it's not a very discoverable feature. That's exactly how it was designed to be. The resource hiding feature was not originally intended as a mechanism for making large-scale changes to the contents of your library. The right click menu was added as a workaround for certain situations, but not made discoverable, because it's tends to lead to people being unable to find their resources. The current solution keeps the feature available for power-users.
There have been discussions around a real interface for managing which resources are locally available, but I can't make any promises about when or if such an interface might be implemented.
Feedback - can't treat all users as if they are incompetent.
The Program Settings has an area that lists all hidden resources, so it's easy to see them.
Making it SO difficult to hide resources, is a poor user experience.
Makes sense to clean up these tools.
Question - does the Logos Development team has a UX professional on the team? If not, that could help a lot with enhancing the user experience.
I have to agree. The user interface is pretty horrible. It's not intuitive and does not follow long established standards for UIs. I hope they're working on a total overhaul.
This method simply doesn't work. You can't select multiple resources, and there is no option to hide a resource when you right click the white space. Even if it did work, the method described to hide a resource is just goofy. What is with your developers that they can't come up with a simple and intuitive way of doing things. I'm finding this software to be extremely frustrating.
You can't select multiple resources
I beg to differ - moreover, selecting multiple resources is just the same (using shift-click for a range of resources, ctrl-click for selecting multiple individual resources) as it works elsewhere, such as in File Explorer.
there is no option to hide a resource when you right click the white space
You need to ctrl-rightclick to see this option - this is explained in the Logos Help section under Hide Resources, in numerous forum threads and in the wiki article http://wiki.logos.com/hiding_books that have been referred to earlier in this thread.

The point is that hiding resources is a process that is rarely needed and the experience of the Logos customer service as well as in this forum is that users may jump to this activity without properly thinking it through. This has led to many instances where users inadvertently hid books they didn't really want to hide, or ask for help not getting search hits they expected - just to find they hid the resource. Therefore it is kept out of the way on purpose.
Nevertheless it works without hassle and straightforward - selecting one or more resources in the library and then choosing an option from the context menu to hide is about the most simple thing one could imagine for this functionality.
Actually, the programmers did an excellent job in making it easy to hide many resources at once. The reason many of us have found it difficult to hide multiple resources is that the instructions provided by Logos are not very clear. The instructions should say:
To hide multiple resources at once:
1. Highlight the resources you want to hide by holding down the Ctrl key and left clicking on those resources.
2. After you have highlighted the resources, continue to hold down the Ctrl key and right click on any one of the highlighted resources.
3. Choose the option to "Hide These Resources." The entire group of resources you highlighted will be hidden. (This may take a few minutes.)
This would be very slow for tens of resources. Clicking the first and shift-clicking the last resource is faster. But this has been mentioned already in this thread.

Can you email me the exact link for "How do I remove a book from my Library?" I could not find it.

This article does not describe how to hide multiple resources. Check https://wiki.logos.com/Hiding_Books

Reading this in 2019... Heartily agree. This is so obscure it's crazy I had to do a search to find this. But, alas, as a long-time Logos user I know the drill: try to do some simple task only to discover it is buried in some remote spot, often not following any conventions or logic common to other applications. User complaints about hide/unhide (unhiding is even worse) go back many years. As library software, effectively managing large numbers of resources should be top priority. Meanwhile, though there have been many great developments, we also get lots of eye-candy features that aren't so useful while core management functionality such as this go neglected. Well, at least we can now 'remove from device' with the desktop.
For at least 4 years, the Logos wiki page has had a link for Hiding Books that explains the "undiscoverable" use of the CTRL key.
