Question for someone with Greek Knowledge

I am studying 1 Peter, and am specifically now in chapter two.

I am trying to figure out if there is some sort of "indicator" or sign, other than context, that would point me to translating ψυχή (psuchḗ) as life or person as opposed to the mind, emotions, awareness, reasoning, etc. (I guess what we know more as the psyche).

Does my question make sense? If not, let me know and I'll try to explain further.

Actually, Cynthia, your query is an almost unsolvable ... I was curious who would 'bite'. Glad your friend helped.

The problem is that the word bounces around in greek usage. Then, bounces around in jewish, then Christian usage. And finally, like a football, takes another turn with early translations.
