A Final Push to Get This Out of Pre-Pub

I make an appeal once again for the Roman Biographers Collection (12 vols.), which is very close to getting over the top. The price is at $18, but if those who are already in raise their bids to $24 it should go over easily, and probably for under $24.

Why should you purchase this particular set? There are three reasons: 1. Suetonius; 2. Suetonius; 3. Suetonius. Suetonius is worth the $24 alone. Don't take my word for it; search your library for Suetonius, and you will see how important he is (mine shows 17,680 results in 10,155 articles in 1,759 resources). I understand that this is already in Perseus, but this edition would be superior.

Please help to get this over the top!

It's coincidental that you mentioned this today because just yesterday evening, I reviewed my CP bids and scratched my head at the languishing of this set. Aristotle, whose literary theory helps us understand the nature of New Testament literature, lies not far behind. The Stoics collection isn't yet at 60% in spite of the monumental influence of these philosophers on many dimensions of the NT. Also important are the writings of the Rhetoricians, Thucydides (Luke didn't invent writing history, after all), the Sophists, and the various dramatists. Most of these have been almost completely ignored. I can understand the reluctance of Logos users; it's a lot of work journeying through these works and not always rollicking good fun, but it just might be worth it!

I've been in since day 1 on all of these.

Sooner or later there will be a dataset that draws on Graeco-Roman literature. It is probably only because it is too labour-intensive that it has not been done yet. But it will come because the value of this literature for the study of the NT is overwhelmingly recognised by scholars now.

I have said this before but will say it again: ancient biographies are actually fun classics to read. It's not like some more tedious types of classics out there. With these, you can increase your culture while having fun learning about ancient Greek and Roman historical figures and the momentous events in which they played a key role. Nepos' biographies are short and action-oriented (no deep psychological profiling). Some of them are only a couple pages long. Suetonius provides interesting portraits not only of twelve Caesars but also of cultural icons such as the poet Virgil.
