Which mountain? Which search?

I've watched a lot of videos trying to learn how to use Logos 6 and now 7. I'm certain I've seen what I am looking for but I can't seem to recall it.

Matthew 17:1 reads, "...and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart..." The simple question is which mountain. But the real question is how do I get Logos to show me, via a search / word association using the word mountain, all the place this mountain is referenced in both the OT & the NT?

From the PNTC commentary, for example:

There has been a good deal of speculation as to which mountain this was. The traditional site is Mt. Tabor, but most scholars agree that this is not likely to be correct: it is too far away from Caesarea Philippi and, moreover, it seems to have been occupied at the time, which would mean that it was not a good place for the solitude Jesus sought. A spur on Mt. Hermon is more likely; other suggestions include Mt. Miron and Jebel Jermak, but we have no means of knowing for sure

But the real question is how do I get Logos to show me, via a search / word association using the word mountain, all the place this mountain is referenced in both the OT & the NT?

If you right-click the word "mountain" and scroll down you'll see it is tagged as "Mount of Transfiguration"

If you run the search on that you get this

So that is all the places where Logos is tagged it - and they haven't linked to any OT references presumably because they don't want to tie it to any particular place due to the uncertainty.

So that is where the Logos software sees it being referenced.

Thank you for the reply Graham, screen shots and all. That is the simple search, but I feel certain there is an associational search where there result might/should point to particular named mountains in the OT. One of which I expect to be Mt Hermon. Still I suppose if what you say is correct where in Logos hasn't "linked to any OT references presumably because they don't want to tie it to any particular palace due to the uncertainty" then it would make sense there would be no further results.

Nonetheless, I would hope that a software package with this price tag would have the power to make some association in some resource.

What they do provide is links to resources that discuss the question.

So looking up the Factbook entry for the Mount of Transfiguration I get a link to the ISBE article where this is discussed

Faithlife offers two ISBE resources that have Transfiguration articles: (personally have added copyright year to Title prefix)

Also Factbook can show passages (with option to save as Passage List).

Grateful for the help I am getting. I did the same Factbook search you did and I got similar results (pictures at the top). Interestingly, I did not get any dictionary results. I expanded the results to show all and found not the ISBE.

I did a library search and found the book and the article, so that helps. Perhaps what I am looking for is something like <Subject:Mountain And Transfiguration WITH Mt. Hermon> only that's not the correct way.

I did the same Factbook search you did and I got similar results (pictures at the top).

Was Dictionaries the section below Media (pictures) and above "Referred to as" sections ?

Note: ISBE published in 1915 does not appear in Factbook Dictionaries section while having "Transfiguration, Mount of " article.

Plus, the greek word is relative ... a good size hill to a good size mountain, relative to the writer's location. Even rough wilderness. And the writer keeps it generic.

I suggest moving the scroll bar on the right of the Factbook panel to the top, in case you have not tried that yet. Your screenshot shows the bottom of the Factbook panel, my dictionary section is higher up. Only the ISBE Revised was in my Factbook Dictionary section.

I made a Collection named Encyclopedias with the rule Type:Encyclopedia and searched that collection for Heading Text "mount of transfiguration" OR "transfiguration, mount of" OR transfiguration NEAR Mount to get a few more entries.

transfiguration NEAR mount

Proximity search of NEAR includes "mount of transfiguration" OR "transfiguration, mount of" articles

Yes, simpler is better. Proximity search with NEAR, especially with encyclopedia entries, is way to go. I did not get more entries by adding Large Text as a search field, but will add it in the future in case it picks up more search results than Heading Text alone.

ISBE Revised was the only search result when I searched ONLY Large Text and left out Heading Text, maybe that is why it showed up in Factbook when the other dictionaries did not.

This just keeps getting better: In an effort to duplicate what Keep Smiling 4 Jesus and Kristen Lewis, I had to first create a collection for Encyclopedias. (Ok, go find that video again ). So I make the collection and guess what doesn't show up - the ISBE. What? Something is amiss. Encyclodaedia? Yep it's spelled wrong! No, not in my search, in the Logos title for the book. I know how to report a typo on a word search (it comes up in the window) but I don't know about report one in a title. (My luck that will be some European spelling).

All is well and King Jesus is still on the throne!

Did you create your collection

Start with resources matching:

Type:encyclopedia

in the text entry box, not Title:encyclopedia (your video may have used Title as a rule)?

It may be why ISB Encyclopaedia did not get pulled in, just guessing. Type:encyclopedia will also pull in dictionaries and other books without Encyclopedia in the title, since Logos has designated them as Type Encyclopedia.

Type:encyclopedia will pick up the International Standard Bible Encyclopaedia. Encyclopaedia is a traditional and acceptable spelling.

If you ever want to add a resource to a collection that the rule you created didn't pull in, you can open your library in a floating window and drag the resource you want included to the + Plus these resources section of your collection.

You can open your library and click on the heading Type, and your library will be sorted into Types, and you can see how many Encyclopedia resources you have and what they are. To get back to a title listing, click on Title, and then Last Updated to see your library by title and when last updated.

The ISBE published in 1915 has resource Type:Encyclopedia while Title has Encyclodaedia

FYI: personally have added Year and Author prefixes to many resource Titles.

I had to first create a collection for Encyclopedias.

Collection rule can be:
