I would like a quick way to see how a single word is rendered in various Bible versions. Perhaps something like this exists already.
There are a few ways I could envision this working by making use of the reverse interlinear tagging:
- In the Bible comparison tool, click on a word in one Bible version (perhaps the first) and the equivalent word would be highlighted in other versions.
- In the Bible Word Study tool, add a section to compare the word translation in all Bibles with a reverse interlinear. It would be to be linked to a particular Bible verse, since a word can be translated different ways in various verses.
- [my favorite] Create something like the Word by Word Guide, but allow a list of Bible translations instead of one. As it now exists this lets you click on a word in the Greek or Hebrew Bible and the corresponding word or phrase is translated in the Bible translation of your choice. I would like it to be enhanced to allow a list of Bible versions, as you can for search results.
I know I can use the Text Comparison tool. But this requires time to scan all of the translations to find where the word in question appears. In paraphrases and dynamic equivalence translations it can be tricky to find the translation of a particular word or phrase.
My best work around is to search the specific Bible verse on the desired Greek word, then change the verses list to display a collection of English Bibles. This highlights the desired word in English in all Bibles that are reverse interlinear translations.
