Study of original texts library question

I have (just purchased) the scholars edition and Luther's Works.

I want to be able to study the original texts in both Hebrew and Greek, not so much in the original form, since I am not a student of Hebrew or Greek, but in their meanings, hermeneutics, customs, and exegesis, etc.

Are there any other collections I can purchase that would help to do this or that would be a good addition to my current library?

You might want to consider this collection http://www.logos.com/products/details/4491 (the price isn't very discounted from what you could get the books in print so you might consider buying individual titles that sound helpful from it ) and this book http://www.logos.com/products/details/3181 . Since you don't know Hebrew and Greek I would also recommend Exegetical Fallacies by Carson. Unfortunately it's only available in this collection ( http://www.logos.com/products/details/2812 )

This one ( http://www.logos.com/products/details/2837 ) looks cool [but too pricey] to me, but I suspect that it is because I have a seminary degree, it may be more scholarly than you want to get.

That is correct for the videos. Keep in mind that they do not charge your card until it ships.

Kevin thanks for the references. You're right about the last one being so pricey. It's basically what I paid for the Scholars edition of Logos 4. I'm a little nervous in that I don't want to buy too many of the same type of books. Not sure how those with thousands of books in their collections can not only manage them all, but read them as well. Seems at some point in time you can easily start to suffer from information overload due to the sheer number of books in ones library.

I wonder if Logos has some type of consumer protection builtin to their ordering system to keep a person from ordering books and materials that they may already have, either as a standalone piece or something already included in a collection they already own?

I see that the package for "Learn to use biblical Greek and Hebrew" video series states

"Also recommended, but not required: BDAG and A Concise Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament (Holladay)."

I wonder just how necessary it is. I'd hate to order it and not have the recommended BDAG and Holladay books installed because I'd probably feel I was missing out on something there.

OH!!! YES!!!

It is written for people like us. We have no training in the original languages yet we want to get a handle on them. It will not teach us Greek or Hebrew but I am looking forward to really know how to use the tools in Logos for looking at the original languages. I have a desire to learn the original languages myself. It seems this is the first step that Logos is taken toward getting the original languages available for people like us to use. This is what was indicated by the video introductions.

At the increase in price, when it publishes, I would get in now if you have any thought that you might want it.

I wonder what they base their sales price on. I mean, anyone can mark something up in price then offer a discount to get people to buy. Oldest trick in the book. Not saying that Logos is out to trick anyone. I'm just saying.

I have Platinum and I only use a subset of the available resources regularly. Occasionally a search brings up things off of the beaten path for me but what I do use is way more helpful and time-saving than having in print. When you have a deadline stick with what you know, budget time to explore unfamiliar resources that may be profitably be added to you most-used resources. Also, learn how to leverage priority lists, star-ratings, and collections to target your time in Logos so you don't end up swimming in too much information.

There is no automatic system to prevent double purchasing of books. However, Logos is very customer-service oriented and they will refund any purchases you accidentally make; this does, however, require a call/email to customer service. I always check my Logos library before I place an order to save me the hassle of having to ask for a refund. Also, I recommend calling to place orders with a sales person because they can check for special sale prices that don't get listed online.

BDAG is the gold-standard in Koine Greek Lexicography, it is expensive, but if you want to do any detailed exegesis there is no substitute. Holladay is a good lexicon, it's not at the top of the Hebrew pile but still very good and doesn't overwhelm you with information. If you get the videos I recommend holding off on purchasing them until you get the videos and see how you can use the lexicons and then decide if they will improve over the lexicons that came with you base package.
