Word Study Collection

I was just looking at the wiki and found several good tips for making various types of collections ( http://wiki.logos.com/Collections ) and used a lot of the examples given for setting up collections such topic books and Bible Handbooks.

Does anyone have any suggestions for setting up a word study collection (I currently have Scholar's if that is helpful)? I know I could use something like title:word study but am sure that I would miss quite a few just doing that one rule.

Hi Richard,

I created a word study collection by using:

subject:language

then I removed about a half a dozen titles to get the set I wanted. I think with a collection like this, you need to run a few searches on the collection to make sure the results you are getting back is what you want to see.

title:word study wouldn't do what you'd expect anyway; you need to put quotes around the phrase "word study" (i.e., title:"word study"); otherwise it would search for books that had word in the title and study anywhere in any of the metadata fields (series name, the description, tags, or whatever).

I have a Word Study collection (still in progress, but it's pretty good so far). Here's the rule I use:

(title:words OR title:"word study") ANDNOT type:bible ANDNOT author:Spurgeon

I omitted Spurgeon because he's got a lot of books with "words" in their title and none of them are helpful for word studies. It was easier to omit them that way than manually dragging them all to the "Minus these resources" box. I've had to subtract a few individual titles which you may or may not have in your library:

Doing Things with Words in the First Christian Century
Notes and Questions on the Catholic Faith and Religion, the Notes and Answers Compiled Chiefly from the Works and in the Words of Dr. Pusey
Words of Delight: A Literary Introduction to the Bible

That gives me a collection with 10 titles in it:

There are probably more I'm missing. Also, if you want to include references that would get you more into the original languages, such as Greek and Hebrew lexicons, this collection won't be sufficient.

Here is a "rule" that someone gave me. I have Scholars Silver (and then some). It yields a collection of 22 books for me.

type:dictionary AND subject:language OR title:lexicon -title:glossary

I haven't tried to add "word study" like Rosie suggested, but I may do that and see if it adds anymore to my collection.

That was great - thanks. I got 40 hits, but Eastons Bible Dictionary didn't show up. I added subject 220.3, and Eastons showed up along with 5 others - I now total 46.
