Bug? Warning

Hi! My system is a Windows 7 system with the latest updates, HP e9220y model, AMD Phenom II X4 910 processor, 2.60GHz, 8 Gigs of RAM, 64-bit OS. The only thing that I've done differently is change the screen resolution from 1280x768 to the recommended 1920x1080. This was because the screen (FLATRON W2361V from something called LG) went completely black at the 1280x768 for still unidentified reasons. I've neither added nor deleted any programs. There are no known viruses or other such critters on the system.

For the past two days I've been getting the following similar warning line in the log under Logos 4.0b, SR-1, (4.02.3.7704):

2010-04-13 16:24:00.0600    1    Warn    ElementUtility    Unable to set focus to default focus: PasswordBox (UserPasswordBox) <- StackPanel <- Grid <- ContentPresenter <- Border <- LogInPromptView <- Grid <- Grid <- ContentPresenter <- AdornerDecorator <- Border <- StartupWindow

All I am doing is activating L4 as normal. Sometimes the small splash screen will sit there for a very long time or it will be necessary to do a CTRL+ALT+DEL to turn off Logo4 executable. After a couple of tries everything works normally. Today, I can get as far as a search, see the result, but the resource doesn't activate. The search I'm doing now is for "Abamram." There is one resource that has the clue to what I need. However, the resource, "Evidence for Christianity" sometimes shows in the Search Results and sometime I get zero hits. When it does show, and I can see the pop up via a mouse hover, I then click on the word and immediately L4 does not respond according to the words in the title bar.

I've even done the unthinkable: rebooted the computer. But there is no change.

The start up offline logs are attached.

thanX!! for any insights into this issue.

Well, I decided to "help things along" by deleting the ResourceManager.db and have the system re-index. About 40 minutes later all is complete, although the db file is not the same size as the deleted one.

Attached is a new set of logs with a set of different warnings that seems to involve the WPF, among other things. These are best seen toward the end of the larger log.

    Very strange indeed....Hope this helps.

This doesn't help your situation and you will have unhidden any hidden resources, which is probably why the file is smaller!

thanX!! for any insights into this issue.

Please confirm that your issues are splash screen delay and incorrect search results?

The splash screen seems to appear quite quickly from the logs attached, so upload logs when there is a delay.

I think it would help if you showed some screen shots of your search
and explain what happens (I don't understand  "L4 does not respond
according to the words in the title bar"). Also login normally, not
offline when you produce logs. Also show another search that is incorrect.

thanX!! for responding to this. I'd have replied earlier but have just spent 2 hours with techsupport at HP just to make sure that there is nothing wrong with my computer. They can't find any anomalies. We even updated the video drivers just because we could....

The splash screen this time went by quickly and I cannot reproduce a delay under a normal start.

Here's a screen shot. Narrative begins again below the .png....

I did a search for "Arumah." The results on the left came up rather quickly. I clicked on the NAS Dictionary, the results of which are in the right pane. I then clicked on Harper's in the left pane, got a busy spin on the mouse pointer, then, as you can see in the upper left corner of the graphic, L4 is not responding "according to the words in the title bar." Even waiting a minute or two resulted in the same crash. I had to use the Task Manager to close L4.

That said, the attached logs are as a result of a normal start.

Hope this helps. At least this time L4 fully loaded and I got as far as this. (I'm not experiencing this on the laptop. And L3 on this same computer runs properly.)

    thanX!!

I understand better what is happening, but the logs do not show an error. Do they relate to the crash ie. upload after the crash and before restarting L4? Was there a crash.txt file with the logs, as we need to see that?

"Beckie" from Logos sent me a note indicating roughly what you are seeing. Here's an edited portion of my response to her:

"I toddled over to the Wiki as you recommended. All of my current settings are as shown on the Wiki, even down to the page file.

And the L4 goes non-responsive as mentioned after only one
operation, such as a search. As a matter of fact, I constructed another
desktop shortcut to make sure the settings from the Wiki were clearly
done. But, the interesting thing is that holding down the CTRL key will
not allow L4 to start so that I can make new logs. I've unchecked the
boxes in the compatibility properties and  now have a log.

I started L4 again with logging enabled. Did a search within a
collection. Got the results. Clicked within the results on the search
word and got the (Not Responding) error as shown in the graphic on the
forums. At the same time the L4 screen developed a whitish overlay. I
clicked on the "X" in the upper right corner, chose "Close the Program" rather than wait, ignored
"Windows searching for a solution" as one never does come up.

I have now reset my system back to its normal configuration.

The generated logs are no different than what has been sent earlier." End of quote to "Beckie."

The answer to both of your questions above is No.

If we keep hammering at this eventually a solution will be found.

    thanX!!

Charley, I'm not at work right now but I saw your forum post. Could you please check your event viewer logs and see if you are getting any errors in that for any programs?  Also a few other things to try:

    - before you open Logos 4, open your task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and look under "processes" to see how many times the Logos4 application is attempting to open. In some cases, the splash screen error is due to the icon registering multiple clicks.

-if you are not able to get logs using the ctrl+click option there is a second method listed at the bottom of the same support page that you can try

-what anti-virus/firewall program/s are you using? Some programs such as MacAfee, Norton and Kaspersky have been known to cause issues with Logos 4. Could you try turning off your anti-virus/firewall and see if you get the same results?

If none of these work, go ahead and email me your results and a phone number where I can reach you when I'm in the office tomorrow.

    Thanks!

    -Beckie
