Mysteries Of The Dead Sea Scrolls

Probably you heard about the dead sea scrolls. Those manuscripts are found in the Qumran caves, and they refer to the Bible as they contain around 220 Biblical texts.

What I found is that archaeologists have discovered skeletons that refer to dead sea scrolls. They assume those skeletons were Essenes. That makes those scrolls very mysterious because there are several theories behind them.

Does anyone have explanation, what were those scrolls, and what's the story behind them?

Welcome to the forums Ian Zonja. I hope you find the community helpful in answering your questions.

My understanding from the limited reading I have done regarding the subject is that the majority of scholars think that the community at Qumran were Essenes. There are some other opinions, but that is the prevailing one and has been held for many years. I'm not sure there is any recent research that changes that.

I've just finished reading this book:

It gives a really good overview on the DSS (ancient and modern history, including the Essenes) with lots of pictures of the Dead Sea area, Qumran, ancient artifacts, paintings etc.

A side note on Vyrso, since this is your first posting, you might not know about it. Vyrso resources display in Logos just fine, but are nothing more than automatically converted ebooks. Most of the awsome features that are shipped with Logos don't work with Vyrso resources.
