How long should it take for L4 to realize there is an update available and download it?

I am a little confused about something. When was A17 released?

I still haven't figured out what exactly triggers the updates on my machine ...

I read the blogs about release 12, 13, so forth and now 17. I am always one release behind... I am on L4 (almost) daily. Everyone is talking about the things release 17 does and the bugs, and I am still on 16. Maybe I'm reading comments by people who are actually part of the test team and they get 'first priority'?

Can you help me understand if there is anything special about how updates occur that would help me understand why my updates seem so delayed?

Is there supposed to be some Icon that says an update is occurring?...maybe the download just takes an incredibly long time (even though I am DSL) and I'm just being impatient (probably) and I should wait it out? I sometimes feel like a little kid who is anticipating my next 'gift'...I can't wait to see what's next.

I do look forward to each update and I'm actually excited about the pace of changes. I just feel frustrated that I'm not experiencing them with everyone else.

Is it possible that I'm experiencing a bug of some kind that is preventing timely updates?...or just impatient?

One thing... I have experienced a trend which tell me I should be getting updated soon. When I start L4 If my system seems to take too long to 'update my library' (like 90 minutes and still updating) Is that an unreasonable amount of time to wait on a library update? When it happens I close L4, and reboot my Mac, restart L4, which restarts without a problem, and the next day I'm usually on the next update.

L4 did that to me tonight, so I'm guessing I'll be on A17 in the morning.

There was a problem with A16 which prevented the application updating automatically. You can download A17 here:

That link can be used to download whichever is the current version of the application.

You should also check your settings and ensure that both the settings highlighted in the screenshot below are set to 'Yes':

I just bought this (wanted to use it with my Mac and iPad), installed it. It asked for my login, that went fine. It opened the homepage and now there is nothing anywhere except the home page, nothing in the library, etc. It also never asked for the install key from the DVD sleeve.

I tried downloading the latest version and use it, no difference. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Gene

Welcome to the forums. Logos 4 needs to download and index your resources before you can use them. This is a little frustrating as you're probably eager to start playing with your new program. It's best to leave the computer running overnight. Make sure that you've (temporarily) altered the System Preferences to stop the computer going to sleep.

As this is alpha software, It is important to check that the indexer is actually running. If it is you should see a little blue icon in your menubar, like this:

Otherwise, check the activity monitor.

If it appears the indexer is not working, then have a look at the post 'Guide for Reporting Bugs' linked from my signature, below. If you have an issue, it will help the Logos developers discover what it is and provide you with the correct advice to sort out your problem.

Steven, Where are all those icons from? I have most of them, and I probably don't care about any EXCEPT, the logos icon. I don't have that one on my mac menu bar. So I couldn't tell you if my system was paused or not.

Yes, my prefernces are set yes to auto update and yes to use internet...however, as you said there was a problem with a16, I have ALWAYS had this problem. If the problem was a known bug, then maybe the fix in a17 will fix it for me.

I'll post again if I have to wait again. I love this product and have been using it since well I don't recall the first version, but this is my first MAC, and i really don't have regular access to a PC anymore.

I also have that logos icon at the top now.

OK re: biblical places. Is it finished? I can hover and get pop-ups, click and change the info at the top of the page, but I haven't been able to 'measure' as Morris suggested sometime in the past. I have tried all the function keys, but no measuring. the a17 update info said some additional things a17 could do, and mentions some things in biblical places, but didn't say what else it couldn't do or that it was or wasn't finished (unless I misread which is a distinct possibility)

Biblical Places is under active development and is not complete. If you can't find a feature, it's probably because it hasn't yet been implemented [:)].

The Logos mini-icon comes and goes for me. Haven't noticed a pattern yet as the when it appears.

The indexing pop up box is still showing after 14 hours.

I am on a Mac Pro with 10 GB Ram, Dual quad core 3 GHz processors and an internet that downloads at around 5 MBps so not sure why it is so slow for this application.

Gene: you can open your indexer.log file to see what is going on behind the scenes. Sounds like the indexer could be hung up. You obviously don't have any shortage of raw computing power.

Is measuring finished?

Morris gave instructions (Windows) a while back on how to measure distance from one place to another... I think that's a pretty cool feature. I do a lot of practical application and comparative similarities. Several years ago I did an Easter sunrise service on the coast of Florida. It was really cool and inspiring because across the bay was an island...about the same distance as is across the Sea of Gallilee. WOW, just thinking about Jesus teaching an a cost similar to the one I was standing...

Anyway as I said I love this product. I researched quite a while and it was pretty easy to determine that LOGOS was the best product available hands down...nothing came close to what this product did for my study.

My only disappointment is I am currently in the MAC World and can no longer use all of its features...GO MAC Development Team!

No. Biblical Places is not there yet, although its development has been progressing rapidly for the last couple of alpha releases.

Me too! I'm new to Logos too and absolutely love the application as it is. Can't wait to discover highlighting, notes, reverse interlinear, etc. that many others are missing from the Mac version.

Looking forward to A18. Running the alpha is like getting a new application every two weeks.
