Citation of Lexham Bible Guides

I have a question about citation (specifically Turabian, but that's not critical), from the Lexham Bible Guides.

For example, let's say I'm looking at Jonah 1:17. and I read about Sasson's thoughts in the AYBC. I like what he says and I want to quote him in my paper. Normally, I would just go to the original material and quote directly from that. However, in this case, I don't own Sasson's AYBC. How would I cite this? Logos cites it as:

Wendy Widder, Jonah, ed. Douglas Mangum and Elizabeth Vince, Lexham Bible Guide (Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2017), Jon 1:17.

But that doesn't seem specific enough. Especially if I'm saying something like "In the Anchor Yale Bible Commentary on Jonah, Sasson thinks the 'three days and three nights expression....'"

Does anyone have any experience with correct citation with these Bible Guides?

    Hello, Ryan!

I come from an APA facility so please double check anything I say against the style you use at your facility. In the APA style, this is considered an indirect source and as such I would use Sasson in my signal phrase and Widder in my parenthetical citation and reference page.

Here’s how I’m directed by the APA style guide:

Indirect source If you use a source that was cited in another source (a secondary source), name the original source in your signal phrase. List the secondary source in your reference list and include it in your parenthetical citation, preceded by the words “as cited in.” in the following example, Satcher is the original source, and Critser is the secondary source, given in the reference list.

Former surgeon general Dr. David Satcher described “a nation of young

people seriously at risk of starting out obese and dooming themselves

to the difficult task of overcoming a tough illness” (as cited in Critser,

    2003, p. 4).

Thanks Scott. That's very helpful. I've marked this as a favorite so I can refer back to it when needed. I appreciate your help.
