A17 Crashes Upon Opening

1. 'Preparing Library' runs for < 30 seconds

2. L4 opens with no resources showing, then they briefly appear and the program crashes.

Note: I do run L4 Windows on a PC and had recently imported my notes files from L3. I don't know if this would have any effect on L4 Mac, but previous to this import, A17 was working fine.

There seems to be a bug in the Logos 4 apps interaction with the indexer. To see if you can work around it, try this:

1) Close Logos 4.

2) Make sure your indexer is not running.

3) Open Terminal

4) Copy and paste the following line and hit Enter

/Applications/Logos\ Bible\ Software\ 4.app/Contents/MacOS/Logos4Indexer.app/Contents/MacOS/Logos4Indexer

This should start the indexer. Once the indexer is done, you should be able to restart Logos 4.

Tom,

I followed instructions and the indexer started running, but after < 1 min it closed. I tried restarting L4 and the same crash repeated again.

The indexer has not ever seemed to complete its task. - that is, it never advances past 0% and eventually closes.

Could you follow Tom's instructions for running the Indexer again, but this time wait for the indexer to exit (without opening Logos 4) and post your logs from that?

Did you recently purchase any new books (or a bigger base package)?

It appears that the Indexer is crashing when trying to read a clause visualizer resource. Tom may be able to recommend a workaround; aside from that, we'll try to get some extra logging into Alpha 18 so that we can get a clearer view of what's going on if it happens again.

I did purchase a volume of the New American Commentary and the Expositor's Commentary set prior to updating to A17. Up until this current problem both of these new purchases were working fine.

I do have a couple clause visualizations open in one of my saved layouts. I use them on my Windows L4.

So Michael, it looks like your Mac version has about 3.3 GB left to download in your last post. Did the Indexer ever finish that download or did it crash? It's not apparent from your Indexer.log that things stopped. It looked like it was trying to download and still discover resources.

Try deleting your Updates.db from /Users/Dad/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/22rsal7e.n14/UpdateManager/Updates.db

Also, could you try running the following two commands from Terminal and pasting the output in a post in this thread?

I did delete the Updates.db file and L4 stays open now. Do I still have a problem with my Indexer? It does not seem as though the download is complete.

It looks like you have a bad version of the CSGNT.lbxclv. If you delete that file from your Resources folder, and restart Logos 4, does the download complete successfully?

For me, the GSGNT.lbxclv is 21760744 bytes, MD5 (CSGNT.lbxclv) = 3d2fa1aab9d887929bf82ce6945b86e2 at on my personal MacBook at home and on my MacPro at work.

You may have to run "Update resources" after you get done indexing to make sure you have the latest version of the Cascadia Syntax Graphs of the New Testament.

I deleted the file, restarted L4 and the download is actually progressing (currently at 5% of 3.22 GB, it will take a while) and I'm going to bed!
