Thanks, Graham. I resisted trying to find out how Jerusalem was tagged because it was not my point. I would think that for most users, Jerusalem is a city (as are the other "Metropolitan areas". Two questions arise from this classification:

In what sense is Jerusalem to be considered a metropolitan area? As far as I can recall, when adjacent places are mentioned (the Valley of Kidron, the Mount of Olives) these locations are identified by name rather than subsumed under "Jerusalem." A metropolitan area is normally understood as a larger area that includes adjacent townships/villages like Toronto which can mean either the city itself or can refer to the metropolitan area immediately adjacent to it and sometimes referred to as "Toronto" (someone actually going to Mississauga but flying from a different country might say "I am going to Toronto"). I don't see in what way any of this could apply to ancient Jerusalem and how it helps us any to think of it as a metropolitan area. The same question applies to the other places in that category. Ancient texts will specify the Piraeus if that's what they mean when they speak of the surroundings of Athens.

Even if this is a "technically" correct designation, how useful is it as classification from a user standpoint? Should not at the very least these places also be classified as cities? Toronto and Vancouver are still cities even though they also refer to metropolitan areas. Users will think cities first.

We're reviewing this, but I'm also inclined to agree that this distinction is confusing rather than helpful. Thanks for the feedback.
