The Simplest of Tasks Made Remote

I would like to accomplish two basic functions and thus far have expended unrewarded hours attempting what should be obvious.

  • I would like to highlight a segment of text in a resource
  • I would like to anchor a note to a certain segment of text in a commentary

Would someone lead me to the light as I now find myself in deep darkness with regards to these two critical interactions with the text?

I'm on Android app at app.logos.com.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, this is not currently possible on mobile. From what FL have said, most of their focus is on the desktop browsers, specifically Chrome and possibly Firefox desktop browsers. If you are on mobile then the mobile Bible app is a much better experience. Though, I do hope they will improve mobile browser support for the web app soon.

It would be good to understand this further. The app is common across all platforms - and so doesn't reside on your Android device. Do you mean you are asking it from an Android tablet / phone?

My answer below includes screenshots from my desktop computer - which gives a few more options than mobile devices as they support right-click functionality - but I'll try to cover both.

This can be achieved on the desktop by simply highlighting the text, right-clicking and choosing "highlight"

If on a tablet - where the right-click functionality doesn't work (or didn't last time I checked) - then you can still highlight the text but you need to add the highlight in the Notes Tool (available from the Tools menu)

A similar approach works - but choosing note instead of highlight - if you want to create a note

However please be aware that the Notes system available on the web app - the one we are discussing here - is a new design and not currently linked to / nor synchronises with the notes system in the desktop app or the mobile apps.

It is planned to move notes on all platforms to the new system but it is being developed in the web app environment first. There will be a migration capability to move notes from the existing systems into the new system at some stage.

    Does this help at all?

That's not really what app.logos.com is designed for. It's designed primarily for desktop computers that can't install desktop Windows.

The native Android app will be far better. What is stopping you installing that? Are you on a very old version of Android?

Sorry - Randy is correct and my earlier post is incorrect

While it is possible to ceate a note in the web app on a mobile device you cant do it against a selection of text, just a section of the resource

    Apologies for providing misleading information

All of you have proven helpful and I thank all of you. Nothing is stopping me from installing the "native Android app," I sought to benefit from the new notes feature not knowing that FL chose to cripple it with these absent features. I will go ahead and install the native Android app instead, although I can't see why FL chooses not to provide these basic functions on the Web app.

Highlighting and Notes do work on the web app - with the caveats I mentioned earlier - but just not from mobile devices at the moment

Better touch support is coming in the near future. We're focusing for now on desktop/laptop devices with keyboards.

There are lots of frustrations with notes on the desktop, so Faithlife are starting over again. It doesn't make sense to pour resources into notes at app.logos.com when there's a new version coming soon. So instead, Faithlife are using app.logos.com as a testing ground for notes version 2, which is being rebuilt from the ground up. So at the moment, notes at app.logos.com is half-built. But in the near future, it will be as good (and for a short time perhaps even better) than notes on the desktop.
