Info window: Gloss

i'm building a wiki page for the Information Tool and i haven't figured out what Gloss (found in the Setups) does.

Does someone know what Gloss shows?

i've been disabling all other features to help ensure what each item really does and i don't see anything showing up for Gloss in the NKJV appearing in the Information window.

don't think that is what they are using this setting for.

(with the Info window settings all turned off, except for Gloss)

Opened the NA27 and it does not pick up anything.

Opened Vines Complete Expository Dict of OT & NT, then hover/click on original language words and it picks nothing up. (nor Bible references or LN references)

Opened DBL Greek, it picks up Morph. abbreviations and DBL numbers, but ignores LN numbers and Strong's numbers.

Opened the Greek-English Lexicon, it ignores LN numbers, Bible refs, and pretty much everything else except LN number which don't have the LN in front of them.

So perhaps it needs certain things tagged in its DB to have the Gloss work???

seems to pickup abbreviations which show as links (some not all)

e.g. TDNT shows what the abbrev. means

a word in the DBL Healing was shown as a link and it picked it up

by definition a gloss should be a short, non-contextual translation. It seems that the Greek Lemma etc "show definition" is the setting that is grabbing the gloss that morph text have been tagged with. Steve, I think you may have found a bug!

Are either of you running the beta? Could you see if this is happening in the beta and perhaps put up a post in the beta forum? Perhaps they can resolve it before the next official release (or at least log it as a bug).

I would have said "contextual" rather than "non-contextual" glosses often appear interlinearily or in annotations and commentaries.

Hover the Greek manuscript and the following appears. The Gloss that is affected by Settings is indicated.

I see the same in 4.0b and 4.0c B4.

i think i see my problem, i had all the other settings turned off (to help me isolate exactly what each feature did). So Robert & Kevin were trying to guide me, but they did not see what i was doing. i am kinda dense that way sometimes [:)]. So the lemma must be enabled for the Gloss to work properly. It appears that this is working correctly (from your post).

i have run into a couple of things with Info settings which seemed odd. If i turn off footnotes, they still appear when i hover over them. This seems like a bug, but whatever, its not a show stopper. i also was surprised when using the RI for the NKJV and hovering over the RI that nothing appears (guess they figure the Gloss and such are already visible on the RI).

In Greek/Hebrew bible that is so.

It is effective for the underlying Greek/Hebrew word

I also note that the Gloss is not available for the Byzantine or the 1550 TR, but it is there for Tischendorf.
