Number of New Tabs Keeps Growing

I'm loving the new tabs but find that the number of open tabs keeps creeping up. I'm very thankful for the reminder of the number of open tabs, as I'd have missed it otherwise. 

Thank you for placing a library button at screen bottom! Historically, that's been what I most had to use the function button to get to. With new tabs, I'm starting to discover that I don't need it as often I can have the other resources I most use already open & already synced to my open bible, just in alternate tabs. Thank you!

So I have a couple of questions:

1. Is there a way to cause ONE open search window to become the target for future searches (similar to L7)? If I don't remember to close the last one, the mobile app opens a new one anyway.  
2. The main reason I now go to the function button is to get to the search function. Is there any way to have it next to the resource button? Better yet, any way to give us user configurable buttons down there/
