Logos Business Attitude -Share Your Profit By allowing User's Data!

Now it is granted the LOGOS company is the no. 1 in the Bible software world. They are doing great in their business.

In a sense they are now a Roman Empire, which put everything under their foot.

What I want to say is that you LOGOS open somewhat doors so that the vast data available as public domain could get into your program. I mean let the customers make their own Libronix data, just as PC Bible Software does. Could you share your profit by allowing such user's data. You lose nothing but will get our heartt.

There are many works now, works which one can use freely as public domain, in HTML or TXT or PDF format. LOGOS seems to rake them all greedily. Let the user also participate or make their own LOGOS data. That will lessen the customers' financial pressure. You ought not to block us from appropriating the free works.

Give, it will be given.

They are already doing this.

PBB's are user created public domain works that are soon to be integrated into Logos 4 and already are integrated into Logos 3

You apparently are unaware of the resources available at Still Truth. Users have been creating resources for several years.

Thankfully, Robert and MJ have already pointed you to the PBB's nearly a thousand or so hosted on my site alone (built by others - not myself).

Try to get to know Logos as a company a bit more, I think you'll find your characterization is perhaps a bit harsh. They are a business investing millions in developing software, and there are many people under their roof who need to eat.

Back to the point, many, many PD books will join the ones already built once the second incarnation of PBB comes out.

I'm not sure that it is true that Logos is the Number 1 Bible Software overall but I do think that they are Number 1 in specific areas and it is probably true to say that they are Number 1 in terms of the scope of the resources available. I also think that when Version 4 is completed they will be Number 1 in terms of feature richness and one of the reasons fro this is that theri business model includes the development of what is essentially a free Software Program for searching and managing a library of Bibles and related books. In this sense Logos already share their profits with us the users by reinvesting in the software base to date each new version has been a radical change from the last the R&D costs of which must be phenomenal.

Indications from Bob are that in Version 4 PBB will be enhanced to use the full Logos 4 resource format rather than the subset that was available in Version 3 this is an exciting and brave move. Over the years Logos has worked very hard to maintain the quality of the resources that are available because the quality of available resources has a direct impact on the users perception of the quality of Logos. My personal view is that Logos 'control' the market to maintain the quality and not out of greed.
