French Bible Translations
I'm currently learning French and I'm interested in French Bible translations. I have the Louis Segond 1910 French Bible (LSG). Is there anything else? Preferably but not necessarily in Logos. Thanks in advance.

There are a number of French Bible translations that would be easier for someone learning French than the French used in Louis Segond.
La Bible en français courant
Parole de Vie (great for language learners uses a limited vocabulary of about 3500 words)
La Bible du Semeur (like the NIV)
Some might recommend others, but these are the ones I used when doing Bible translation in Chad. If you want them in Logos you can purchase this https://www.logos.com/product/43893/pack-cle-premier#001Its expensive, but it has a number of additional French resources. On the other hand, if you are just beginning, just pick up a paper version of one of those translations.

A friend gave me a French version of the Jerusalem Bible years ago. The original translation was done by Catholics in French. I found it much easier to read than Segund.

I'm happy to say that I can access all of these (and more) French Bibles from the YouVersion app. It would be great to have them in Logos, of course, but that'll do for now.

Hi, Does anyone have any experience with comparing the French versions you recommended to that of the original text of Hebrew and Greek? If so do you know which one tends to be most diligent in gleaning the real concept of the verse in context of the passage, as shared in the original text, using the current French language , with the clearest and simplest articulations? Or which translation would be similar to the NLT, if you are familiar with that one? I am beginning to feel llike the LGS loses the richness of the text in translation. Also, there is this issue with the numbering system of the verses. Do you know anything about why the numbering of verses is different between translations and also different from the English versions? -Thanks

Welcome to the forums. The different numbering systems for the verses is a long-standing result of the verse divisions being somewhat arbitrary rather than based on linguistic rules ... compounded by different translations using different base texts perhaps varying by a few key words that affect sentence structure ... compounded by different sentence structures in the translation itself affecting the sequence of words. But thanks to Logos, this does not create a problem because the verse-mapping routine makes the adjustments automatically .... and I have found only one case that partially stumps it. And, yes, over the years I have really pounded on this feature in a variety of contexts ... and I do know most of the anomalies to trip it up.

My wife teaches a French class at our normally English church. So on Sunday afternoon I use the KJV and the Louis Segond 1910 versions so that she has all of the text printed in BIG print for next week’s lesson in both languages. Logos does a good job of letting me know when there are verse number difference. [[as MJ Smith stated above]]

Logos Wiki has => Bible Verse Maps that shows verse numbering differences between many Bibles.
Thankful Logos & Verbum can hide Chapter & Verse numbering (am aware numbering was not in original languages plus were added to Bibles without regard to original language discourse expression so some numbers are in the middle of a thought: e.g. Philippians 4:6)

This page has nine versions on it, based on bibles from Alliance biblique française. The parole de vie and the Nouvelle Français courant are quite good. There is also la bible du Semeur that is quite popular with evangelicals. The segond and columns are quite literal, but hard to read. I am currently reading Isaiah in the nouvelle Français courant, comparing it to English versions. It is excellent, and often better that most English translations
